Explain to the developer you are aware the diagonal cannot be fixed, but that it isn't the most recent issue that started with the latest patch. English may not be their first language. Also keep in mind that you are specifically referring to the PC version of the game.
1. A change in direction TOWARDS THE LEFT OR RIGHT FROM UP OR DOWN is only registered when the analog stick of the controller is rotated a full 90 deg (i.e. all the way to the left or right).
2. A change in direction TOWARDS UP OR DOWN FROM LEFT OR RIGHT is registered as soon as the analog stick is rotated 45 deg or more (i.e. when the stick is closer to the left or right than up or down). This is how a basic implementation is expected to work.
3. The dead zone of the controller analog stick is too small. Going in a direction and releasing the stick can make Pac-Man go the opposite way due to stick inertia.
NAMCO: PLEASE FIX THIS ASAP. This is 100% reproducible. Note that this problem ironically does not exist in the course selection menu (which can be navigated diagonally without a hitch).
UPDATE 23/11/16: same exact problem with a DualShock 4 using InputMapper.
Holy God this is unacceptable. Diagonal movement isn't recognized? What crap is that? Why is it recognized in CEDX+ then?
Namco needs to be publicly shamed for this.
UPDATE: OK, NAMCO just doesn't care. I played with the D-PAD. It was not great. Game uninstalled. I'll be weary of NAMCO in the future.
I really wish game outlets knew/paid attention to this.
Thanks for answering!
Thanks
