I'm so confused why this game doesn't have controller support

Seriously. This game came out on Switch, so it's already had it implemented, and its last update was a bit over a year ago, well after the Steam Deck's launch. Why didn't they take the time to add the controller support they worked on for the Switch version into the PC version? I know it's not as simple as clicking a button but I can't imagine it's that much work, especially since Steam Deck verification would probably help with sales, even if only a little bit. I held off for the longest time because of it, and only got the game because it was basically free in a bundle with Stray Fawn's other games. What gives? Will it ever happen?

Probably not sadly. I would also like controller supprt, and I was hoping for a few accessibility features, but they seem done with the game.
