How are you supposed to adapt to the Burning Savannah?
I can't exactly figure out why this island is listed as being medium difficulty since I can't figure out how to do anything in here. The option for swimming and fishing has been taken away, so all you have is heat resistance for movement and... thats it.

The only sustainable food source without fish anymore is cacti and there is no way your nichelings can adapt to actually eating from them, since the damage is too high (probably worse than starving honestly). I'm really not sure how I am expected to do anything on this island. It seems even harder than the oasis. If anyone can give me some input, that would be great!

Maybe they're planning on adding a gene or two that allows you to safely collect from the cacti? Other than that, I'm just as stumped as you on how to survive it. Like, roots can help, but only so much.

I am stumped too! It is probably like Star Sword Sage Sil said they'll add something so that you can survive there better and I don't think it should be a medium island either ^^

I hope we get edible bugs that swarm around or can be dug from underground (mongoose stuff) and the cactus paw/mouth. I also hope that the digging claw wouldn't require two paws to get +2 roots (also with one paw it's destroying the chance to dig again for the second root, whyyy does it do that?).

I see most people are as stumped as me haha. But yeah with this biome with pretty much no genes you can use to adapt, no prey, and no sustainable source of food, I'm a bit worried this biome is just too imbalanced as it is before release.

It would be nice if we had genes added to help, but I doubt we will get them on release. They should at least put it on a different difficlty since it really is much too hard....

My only input is that it is currently impossible to survive on that island.

Yeah ahaha it really seems to be that way.

Yes, I agree that Burning Savanna has turned out the be one of the hardest islands, despite being in the medium set xD

Haha I'm glad you agree! We are quite stumped on this one.

That island kinda reminds me of the Brazilian cerrado, a savanna-like biome filled with termite mounds (the great responsibles for consuming the grass, in the abscense of herds) where burns are quite common near the start of the rainy season (lightnings + a lot of dry grass ), some species there are actually so adapted to it that some seeds will only sprout once the heat of a burn break it's dormance (with the grass gone theres a lot of room for growth ), and, after the rains, it looks nothing like the usual dry savanna, but a lush grass field with occasional flowering trees. So, maybe, after the grass burns there could be a short abundance of food? And maybe there could be termite mounds that special genes would allow nichelings to take advantage of? I would love trying to have manned wolf-like nichelings roaming around that island xD

Oh wow yeah this would be so interesting and fun to incorporate!! I love the idea!

Maybe the new gene will be called the rough paw

Also, that would give at least two possible routes for the nichelings to adapt : efficient and quick collectors/hunters (in case theres some kind of "seasonal" small prey) that rely on the temporary abundance of food to build up reserves for the drought, being also able to run away from the fires, and "insectivore" nichelings, that rely mostly on termite mounds for food throughout the seasons (like an anteater) and, maybe, to shield themselves from fire? As termite mounds are pretty resistant to fire, many animals take advantage of those in other ways besides feeding. Idk, I just love the Cerrado and I think it could be a nice reference for the burning savanna's challenge

Yeah these are absolutely wonderful ideas to use! The Cerrado seems like a great inspiration!

A prey species would be excellent, since that is certainly missing for the Burning Savannah I think, especially since the genes best adapted to the heat involve fast movement and very sensitive hearing. So a prey species would be perfect for that biome, even if "seasonal". And the insectivorous idea is great too! Partially because inspiration from the Cerrado's termites is great, and also because I think anteater snouts are just oo cute! But yes, that sort of mechanic sounds great! It would be kind of like the mountain, except with more of a focus on escaping the fires and dealing with them.

Yes! It could be some kind of quick-skittish prey, like mice, wich would require fast movement and good hearing (think of the maned wolf: an omnivore, it eats mostly fruit, but uses its huge ears to locate mice and long legs to travel across the "sea of grass", still being able to see where it's going, they're pretty fast too). Anteaters are the cutest weirdos with those snouts and huge claws xD.

*edit: maybe the "mice" could even use the termite mounds as burrows to hide if they manage to scape you, so you have to catch them quickly, unlike the rabbils, that still hang around the island. Again reflecting the importance of the mounds and maybe hinting that nichelings could use those in some way.

Oooh yes I love that! The mice possibly escaping you is a great idea since it can give them some uniqueness compared to other prey species in Niche and works really well with the biome and genes you need. As well as giving that importance to the termite mounds!
