Incest and Population
So...the game actively discourages you from breeding family members together by forcing sickness onto the offspring, which is fine and all, except... How else am I supposed to get a population, when ALL of the animals roaming about have ugly heads and awful genes?

It's not telling you, you cannot inbreed. You can, and in most circumstanced you will HAVE to. Or else your all gonna die out. What Niche discourages is breeding two creatures with the same immunities. (This goes for non-related creatures too. I've bred with a non-related wanderer before and got sick children)

What I suggest doing is breeding Adam and Eve like crazy together until you get a brother and a sister with different immunity genes (Like A & F and B & G) Then breed them. Boom, healthy kid. No risk of sickness.

Even if you have to breed two siblings together with the same immunity (and A & F and B & F) your not going to get double-immunized sick child all the time.

EDIT: And when I get sick children do you know where they go? Straight into the ocean. Where they drown... and I don't have to worry about a useless mouth to feed. (It's cruel I know. But sickness doesn't happen alot for me anyway, using these methods.)

just wanted to say this, but i have actually had same immunities work... once. it was a miracle of nature to see it. serious i realized the 'mistake' i had made as soon as i did it....and then somehow it worked. however, you are right the game definitely wants you to stay away from this combination.

this is what i accidentally did: ( || + ) -> ( + || ) => ( + || )

the big thing to realize mechanically here is in a same immunity relationship there is only a single good combination and two bad ones. which makes it very hard to get a good outcome. where in a relationship with only one similar immunity like ( || + ) and ( = +) there is two good combinations and one bad one making it easier to get the good outcome.

Had the game a while but started to recently play. Was horrid trying to find new blood to breed with before everyone got old and die while collecting resources. Makes the game a little more fun knowing this. cheers!

why dont u just F1-DeleteOccupant-enter? thats what i do. or if the island is big enough for my entire population,i have the "sick corner" where all sick nichelings that can actually do something go. there they collect, hunt, and even breed if they are different immunities (like a D-D and a B-B), in which case the kid gets sent to the healthy creature territorry, and those sick creatures just live normal lives without any healthy creatures nearby. even if the lives are shorter.

Actually, there are TWO good outcomes. (II +) and (+ II), so you have a 50% chance for a good outcome (2 out of 4). Just saying. Simple genetics.

I send my sick ones underwater, it's good for getting nesting material, but I also very rarely have inbred Cubs, love my story mode tribe so far, I've managed to keep all of adam's genes except big body

And I might try for big ears, instead of normal ones, but hey
