Easier Way To Switch Between Throwables/Main Weapon and Flashlight/Knife
The current system where you have to hold the touch pad down, then select the weapon you want to change to is very cumbersome and slow. My suggestion would be to replace this so a short press autoswitches between weapons. If you want to get the menu, then you hold in for a a couple seconds.

Throwables seem very awkward to use right now because it's so difficult to switch to them.

Another more immersive option which would really fit in VR would be to have your other objects located on either hip (either side of HMD, roughly half way between HMD and floor-- could even place it more exactly by researching average torso to leg ratio and multiplying by height). Then you can reach down and grab them using the grip button in the object vicinity (make it generous to account for different body types). You could even have the actual object floating in air, so you can see roughly where it is.

A side effect of this second option is it would potentially allow us to reach down and grab a throwable with our left hand, or a knife/flashlight with our right, and we wouldn't just be stuck with only being able to hold a specific object in either hand. Granted that would affect game balance.

As it happens, we are planning to do exactly what you said! One press of the thumbpad switches between weapon options, hold the thumbpad down to bring up menu.

As for your second suggestion, we experimented with a "weapon belt" that works pretty much the way you describe, but we couldn't get it looking and feeling the way we wanted in time to ship with. We may revisit the concept, but that would be further down the road.

Awesome, glad to hear it!

this is brillliant, although it has a drawback. the position of you hip in VR vs RL.
Maybey it's possible to get an approximation by using guestures or active areas.

That is actually one of the issues we ran into - the belt felt disconnected, like a floating hoop instead of gear you're wearing, because the only info we have to work with is your head position and orientation. It's a neat idea, though, so we'll try to carve out some time to experiment with making it work.

only applicable for the knife: http://i.imgur.com/VLEOfji.jpg
your shoulder remain the same space from the head.

Space pirate trainer has a nice mechanic for getting the schield. grab it from your back.

You could check with the dev from H3VR (Hot Dogs, Horshoes and Hand Grenades). He uses a sort of belt system and it works fairly well and doesnt seem to jump around too much. Vanishing Realms uses a similar feature but I often found it was off to the site, etc. requiring me to sort of jerk my head to make it show in the proper spot

Even if it doesn't make you feel exactly like really wearing belt immersion wise, just take a look at Vanishing Realms inventory, the usability is just better and even if it's not perfect it still adds to the immersion. But quick switching with the trackpad should indeed have higher priority right now as it sounds trivial to implement and would already be a huge improvement.

Then in the mean time, I would like to have something similar to SPT (spacepirate trainer).
I can switch weapons without looking at them in there.
