Brookhaven Experiment won't start
A friend of mine got his Vive today and as a fan of scary games he naturally bought Brookhaven Experiment. Unfortunately we couldn't manage to start the game. We got the same problem as some other users got.. When we try to start the game steam shows the message, that Brookhaven Experiment is starting, but it just loads forever and then stops. We tried everything from reinstalling everything, unplugging and plugging everything in again to installing the latest mvsc2015. Nothing did the trick for us. Does anybody know what the problem might be and maybe how to solve it? We'd be happy about any suggestion.

Exact same problem here with a GTX 980, i5 2500k, 8GB RAM and Windows 10 64 bit.

If the game won't start at all, try installing Unreal Engine 4. You don't have to download the actual engine, the launcher is enough, it installs some sort of prerequisites during the launcher install which help the game start. This fixed my problem.

Yeah, we just tried that 10 minutes ago and it worked for us too. Maybe the developer should include this in the installation.

♥♥♥♥ this!
I bought the game in good faith, it's not working and if I want it to happen I need to download some ♥♥♥♥ extra software that i need first to create an account in the website?

Hey, devs, this is ♥♥♥♥♥♥♥ unacceptable: fix this!

Sorry for my sincerity

And before someone ask me about, I already have MSCV 2015 installed and running properly in my PC. This does not help at all. Need some guidance here.

My specs: Intel i7, AMD R9290, Sound Blaster Z, 12GB RAM, drivers totally up to date.

Downloading Unreal 4 Engine solve sh*t too. Need a fix or a refund.

You shouldn't need to download anything extra, we're not sure why this is happening and haven't been able to recreate the issue.

What might help is if you could find and send a Brookhaven log file to us, along with an explanation of your issue, at support@phosphorgames.com. You would find this in your Users directory, usually at:

C:\Users\YourUserName\AppData\Local\BrookhavenExperiment\Saved\Logs\

If you can find this file, I'll be on the lookout for your support e-mail.

Thanks for the quick response.
Unfortunately, there's no log file in the specified folder.
I'll try to describe the issue the best I can, but my english is not very good (sorry for that):
When I start the game, the menu screen is not displayed properly: it seems like the menu is oversized, with part of it off-screen, due to (I think) a scaling issue, for I'm using a 4k UHD monitor/TV. The intro shows only a part of the the Phosphor Games and the Unreal 4 logos at the top of the screen (only the bottom half). When it shows the menu screen options (with the huge monster on patrol), at the bottom there is a large gray bar, from side to side of my screen. At the top, I can see only part of the game options (once again, the half bottom part): the only word showed is "survival", but I'm unable to load. Mouse does not respond and I'm unable to interact with the main menu. The only way to return to the desktop is using CRTL+ALT+DEL and killing the process in the task manager.
- Aware I am that many games have issues with 4k hi resolution monitors/TVs, I tried to fix the issue checking the "Disable display scaling on high DPI settings" option in compatibility mode and start the game as an administrator, but with no use. (There is something else going on, cause it does not explain why I cannot interact with the main menu options).
- Tried also fix the issue by downloading and reinstalling Unreal 4 engine. Once again, did not work.
Cannot launch the game, don't know what to do.
My specs: Intel i7 3770 3.40GHz, Gigabyte B75M-D3H Motherboard, 16GB RAM, AMD RAdeon R9 290, Sound Blaster Z, Windows 10 Pro 64bit. All drivers up-to-date.
Thanks in advance

You don't mention whether it is working properly with SteamVR or your Vive headset or controllers - is it?

I have a bad feeling I made a mistake: am I correct or I cannot play the game with a keyboard? I don't have a VRSteam.

Sorry, but our game is VR only. You can only play it through SteamVR with the Vive hardware, and we have no plans to make a non-VR version. You should be able to get a refund through Steam.

Apologies for my stupid mistake. I didn't notice the need of a VR hardware. Well, I'm stuck in the keyboard era, until a (more cheap) VR controller is available here in Brazil (it's too, too much expensive right now, here in Brazil).

Sorry and thank you. :-)

VR arcades are opening all over the world, and most of them have "The Brookhaven Experiment" so hopefully there will be one close to you and you can check it out sometime!

I had the exact same issue. The game wouldn't launch. SteamVR simply says it's starting the game but nothing happens. SteamVR eventually goes back to the "ready" state. No game window shows up on my taskbar during that time and the folder for the log files does not exist.

I ended up installing Epic Games launcher as someone suggested. It actually worked and the game launches now. Something must be missing from the Brookhaven install.

Btw dev, I just reformatted my PC and didn't install many games. My system is quite clean. I did install the game on a secondary drive (not OS drive). Hopefully you can figure out what is missing. W10 64bit, GTX 1070, 4670K, 16GB ram.
