I am trying to figure out the controls for the game. I've tried the arrows, WASD, even tried turning numlock off for the numerical arrows. So far the only thing that is working is the alt button to move to the next selection.

Please help.

Hmm, I'm not sure... Do you have a controller connected? Try disconnecting it and see if that helps. The normal arrow keys are the primary way to move, and 1 and 3 will allow you to jump and crawl (though we expect to change that today).

Changing?? I just got used to using my numbers above WASD to jump and crawl! ;)

Try setting compatibility mode of RPG_RT.exe (right click -> setting -> compat) to Windows 98 and run it once. Now check if the input works. If it does: Disable the compat setting. This is a strange problem in RPG Maker 2003 on newer Windows versions but only happens to very few users.

I am having the same problem as solitaryknite. Could you go into a more detail and a step by step process of what your response/solution was in regards to this delima. I'm not the most tech savy person. Thanks

Sure thing. I'll reiterate the steps that Gabriel has suggestion.

1) Navigate to the file named RPG_RT.exe (...\Steam\steamapps\common\Ara Fell)

2) Right click RPG_RT.exe, select Properties, click the Compatability tab, check the "Run this program in compatibility mode for:" checkbox, then from the dropdown box select "Windows 98".

3) Select OK.

4) Run RPG_RT.exe to see if the problem is fixed.

5) If it IS fixed, close the game, then right click RPG_RT.exe again.

6) Select properties, then the compatibility tab, then uncheck the compatibility box. The problem should be solved now.

I am having the same problem but the proposed solution didn't work. Does anyone have another idea what i could be? I don't have any controller attached. It worked fine the first time I started the game but afterwards not any more. Reinstalling didn't help.

January 2017, just installed this game. Same problem as the others here. Putting in "Windows 98/Windows ME" compatibility mode (system here is Windows 7). Only ALT key works reliably, ESC and a couple other keys just go to the "Show Epilogue?" message.

Unplayable since it is not even possible to go to the configuration menu in this condition.

Are you still experiencing this issue? It's an RPG Maker 2003 thing, rather than something specific to Ara Fell, so it might be worth it to try asking on Steam's RPG Maker 2003 page... But if the above steps didn't work for you, I honestly don't know what to do...

I would encourage you to refund the game via Steam (you can Google how this is done) if you've played for less than 2 hours, assuming you can't get this figured out. I'm sorry for the trouble, at any rate. :\

The issue went away at some point while juggling the USB devices (printer, wireless mouse) plugged into this laptop. It came back once after but was remedied by a restart.

What kind of keyboard support is this
I've played some RPG Maker games before but like
To start the game I had to press C (maybe it was X) then Alt

Controller didn't work at all ended up unplugging that though it didn't make a difference

Looking forward to that enhanced edition because wow I'm actually shocked I got past the main menu

Guess I'm SoL until enhanced comes since I redeemed a key from I think Fanatical a bit ago

Game looks amazing so this is kind of a let-down, I use a Corsair K70 RGB keyboard if that makes any slight difference but the only inputs that work are esc, x (i think c,v,b ingame to open the menu) and alt

Can't actually move my character around after pressing alt to go through the dialogue.

So... Yeah. I guess I wait? :/

Hey Tensenuma, sorry you've encountered keyboard issues :/

If you switch over to the beta it should work. It's easy to get, you just have to:

1. In your Steam game library, right-click Ara Fell, go to Properties, click the Beta tab
   
2. Enter the password: afeebetarawr
   
3. Press 'check code'
   
4. From the drop down list, select "opt into beta"
