VirtualHere for Steam Link

VirtualHere for Steam Link

VirtualHere with Steam Link and HyperX Cloud Flight S headset
I just picked up this USB headset to use with my Steam Link hardware and then purchased VIrtualHere through Steam.

Audio and mic on the headset are both set up and working normally on my Windows 10 PC in Steam games and Discord. Then per the VirtualHere FAQ, I moved the headset's USB dongle to the Steam Link, changed the Steam Link audio setting to HDMI so it doesn't crash when streaming, and shared the device in the VirtualHere section. I hit "Start Playing" and get to Steam Big Picture, but no audio. I can get ambient Steam Link audio to the headset prior to streaming if I switch the audio setting from HDMI to Automatic or USB, so I know the Link is seeing the headset, but if I leave it there, the Steam Link crashes when I start streaming. VirtualHere appears to be connected.

Alternately, I tried moving the USB dongle back to the PC and just using that, as the PC is near the room I'm streaming to, bypassing the SteamLink completely for audio. I do get Windows audio at that point when I start streaming, and when I minimize Steam Big Picture, I can test the audio and mic successfully in Windows, and can start up games from GoG or Epic, but as soon as I start a game through Steam, I lose all audio.

Any suggestions for either option?

Any update on this? I have the exact same issue. Why does the Steam Link crash when using the correct audio setting? Is there a fix for this in the works?

I cross posted to the Virtual Here forum as well. The dev replied, but basically said it was a SteamLink issue. I uninstalled Virtual Here and returned for refund.
