VirtualHere for Steam Link

Shield TV does not detect Xbox One USB adapter?
Has anyone used an Xbox One USB adapter successfully with the Nvidia shield? When I plug mine in the light does not even come on. The adapter works in my PC. VirtualHere recognizes other USB devices, but not this one because it doesn't seem to even power on?

The adapter should work fine. Try pressing the small power button on the dongle and see if it lights up

I have the same issue. The power LED on the dongle doesn't not turn on when plugged into the Sheild TV, but comes on only when plugged into the hosting Windows 10 PC. However, Virtualhere (android) does see the dongle when it is plugged into the Shield. I am able to share it within the settings. The controller just does not pair/connect with the dongle when the dongle is on the Shield TV.
I also notice that if I close the Steam Link app (or just go back to the home screen on the Shield) and then reopen Steam Link, Virtualhere settings say no USB devices are plugged in. Previously it was showing 3 devices, the xbox dongle, my smarthings hub, and my shield controller. When I reboot the Shield TV, it sees all the devices again.
I've refunded the app for now.

Virtualhere, do you know any more about this?

To clarify, the Xbox One wireless controller (with the wireless usb dongle it came with) won't work when plugged into the Shield TV.

When I plug the dongle into the Shield, Virtualhere android server does ask if I want to use the device and I click yes through both prompts. I can also go to the host PC and open the Steam version of the Virtualhere client and see the Xbox controller listed as a hub. So the Shield definitely sees the dongle.

However, back on the Shield device, the dongle does not actually show any indication that it is available to connect to the actual gamepad. I can turn on the gamepad and the xbox home light on the gamepad just continues flashing slowly. Pushing the one button on the dongle does nothing. The normal white led light on the dongle never activates.

If I disconnect the usb dongle and plug it back into the hosting PC, it works right away and the gamepad connects.

When I open the Steamlink app on the Shield TV and go to the controllers section of settings, it doesn't show the Xbox One controller. Is there a step I am missing you think? I am wondering if the dongle will "wake up" at some point as part of some step I have missed.

I got it working. I don't know if it is needed, and I'm going to assume it is not, but I did buy the DLC since my last post. Even if not needed, I consider buying it another support for what I believe to be a very clever and helpful software.
Otherwise, I also ran the client here in Steam and just made sure it was set to add all hubs. I then closed the client. I also added my Shield IP in the hub list manually even though probably not needed.

Since I had installed the DLC, I also restarted my Shield TV.
And the main point, even though I could not see the Xbox controller listed in the Controller settings of the Steamlink app on the Shield, and even though the controller was just blinking prior to starting to stream, as soon as I actually engaged streaming from the PC in the Steamlink app, the dongle finally activated and the controller connected to it.
I then tested all elements of the controller in a game, including pressing the home button to verify that the android controller drivers were not being used and it actually opened the Steam overlay... Perfect! (I hate how the Android controller elements basically lock out certain button mappings and reserve them for itself. Main reason I wanted to use Virtualhere actually)

I then closed the steam session and the dongle immediately disconnected. I'm going to assume for now that it will power up again when I start another session, but I wanted to just get back and say I got it working.

OK that sounds complicated. But yes basically once you start streaming the steamlink app will communicate with the virtualhere app and tell it to start sharing the usb dongle and then it should connect. Nothing will work before you start streaming other than being able to select the device to use via virtualhere. Since you bought the virtualhere on steam, I can give you another key (not sure if ive given you one yet or not) that will enable the virtualhere app to stay licensed outside of running the steamlink app. email me at mail@virtualhere.com if you need that key.

Also when running the steamlink app and then starting streaming it will silently start the virtualhere client on your pc *without auto-find off* then manually put in the ip address into the virtualhere client so when it starts streaming the client knows exactly where the server is and will connect immediately. If you want to use the virtualhere app outside of the steamlink integration just make sure that USB Hubs->Auto-Find is checked in the virtualhere client and it will automatically find.

I'm very glad to have got it working. Just a nicer experience to use the controller through your system vs the bluetooth option in android due to the reason I mentioned.

Thank you for the key offer; I was going to say that I am all set, but since you mentioned it, I may occasionally like to try a game through Gamestream directly or Moonlight on the shield. If you don't mind, that would be appreciated actually. I will email you. Thanks!
