VirtualHere for Steam Link

VirtualHere for Steam Link

s controller via usb changes volume on left analogue stick when streaming xbox app via steam
I've been enjoying playing the xbox streaming to the pc to the link and using virtualhere to allow me to plug an xbox one controller into the link . The USB signal gets sent fine with a standard xbox controller and I can control the app and any game with the controller.

the problem happens when I try to use the white controller , that's the one that connects wirelessly to the link via bluetooth. When I use a USB cable with that , it is not recognised in the xbox app. Moving the left stick up or down changes the volume in windows

the controller works when plugged in to the pc with usb and it can control the xbox app ok

what is so special about the s controller?

I just tried a new original controller and that has the issue of changing volume on windows when I move the stick. this happens when streaming to the steam link. the old controller works normally.

both work fine when plugged in to the pc and for xbox app

update:

I tried changing various settings because steam would recognise the controller that was working with xbox app and know it was different to the one that acted as a controller for windows volume. (also, pressing start on the controller would show up the alt tab results)

and now the original working controller no longer works for the xbox app and has reverted to being like a keyboard and mouse

this is only happening when I use the steam link to open the xbox app.

I can use the controllers when plugged in to the pc fine.

it seems that steam is doing something to the controller when it is streaming

I've tried every permutation of controller settings and config but I can't seem to get it back to working with the xbox app

update

it appears it has something to do with the chord setting. It's using the functions from settings/controller/chord configuration

i tried changing them but it didn't make a difference

Edit

My mistake. It is using the desktop configuration for the Xbox controller so I can use tab with the back button if it is set to use recommended desktop configuration.

Won't act as a usb connected controller to be able to use with the Xbox app

I'm ready to give up!

ok, sorry i dont have that controller at the moment to test, but basically at the moment i recommend using the xbox controller only with the xbox wireless dongle. If you can use that instead then it will work.

so I can't use direct USB connection with an original black controller? it used to work with one but I had to change it due to a drifiting analogue stick

shame. I'll see if I can return it and send for a wireless dongle

still not working

I bought a wireless dongle for windows 10 and can use the controller wirelessly to control the xbox app . I connect it to the steam link and set XBOX ACC to be shared in virtualhere settings and connect to the pc, open the xbox app shortcut and it still acts as though the desktop configuration takes over the controller and the xbox app no longer sees it, the mouse moves with the right stick and the triggers are the mouse buttons

it seems as if steam takes over the controller as soon as I open the xbox shortcut.

it works fine on the windows machine.

I tried forgetting the controller config in steam

set xbox compatibility on and off

deleted the folders in steam userdata/config

the virtualhere tray app says controller is connected and in use

but it still isn't working as it should :(

minor update

sorry for spamming this but I've been on it hours

I got it working to control the xbox app

controller settings - enable xbox compatibility
base config/desktop settings - disabled
base config/big picture settings - default
base config/steam button chord configuration - using iMcKillem config

I keep pressed the chord button so I can move the mouse and highlight the xbox app, the controller works fine with the xbox app and games when it is streaming to the pc

I'm just putting this here so I can go back to it if needs be!
[edit]
I should say that I'm using the wireless dongle. the controller does not work with steam AND xbox. I use the steam controller to switch on the link and open the program and I can hear that windows recognises the usb controller and then works with xbox app
