I feel like this game has alot of potential, but overall the game is being held back EXTREMELY by creative decisions.
Even the theme of this game is very perplexing, especially for a rhythm game.

So anyway my takes are:
-The UI is HORRID and confusing to navigate.
-The dialogue for the story mode is UNSKIPPABLE. (And no do not tell me holding space and enter works. IT DOESN'T. I have to manually spam them to skip through the dialogue and I can't even skip the annoying visuals.)
-Dashing is weird and inconsistent to use
(Example: Dashing through T h i c c solid lines may lead you to still getting hit for being inside it.)
-Level Editing is a full time job with seemingly very outdated functions making it take longer to actually develop a single level
-What even is the story???? Genuine question here. Some person that lost their memory and is trying to get it back? I'm not sitting through that!!!!! Let me play funny rhythm game!!! >:(

Anyway, if the people working on this game were to do a complete 360 and redesign the entire game to something more creative and easier for newcomer to get attached to, then that would be great.

(PS: Even Geometry Dash's Level editor is more fun than this alone. Take Notes.)

♥♥♥♥♥ so ass none of the buttons work bad ui

Everything in this game, from the dash and music to the story and UI feels bad, unpolished and incoherent. There might be some amazing levels later on but it's not going to be worth the time with such a poor quality of most aspects of this game.

got it for the levels but story is too boring and mods are not that fun. just my opinion tho

update from over 4 years post EA launch: there is still no story mode. at least there's 4 decently polished levels and 2 bits of dialogue but this is the kind of thing i'd expect the game to have had on its EA launch, not 4 years after the EA launch. having a ton of good user made content isn't an excuse to not make the actual official part of the game.

definitely the game ever. a pretty ok experience if you want more games like just shapes and beats, but currently the story mode is still very incomplete, and nowhere near done, so the game relies almost completely on user-made levels. probably just wait until story mode releases before you give this a shot. the developer seems to be focusing on improving the tools behind user-generated content instead of story mode so it might take some time.

update from several months after writing this review: there is still no story mode, just more level editor updates and fixes, where the hell is the story mode

Bought this game, gosh I don't remember when, ages ago though. The game was still in development, so I didn't play it. Started playing JS&B recently so I thought I'd check this to see if it was finally finished. It is, and I don't particularly like it. The movement is very strange, and it feels like you're gliding. The dash is very strange: sometimes I press it and it doesn't work, invincibility frames are extremely limited (leading me to dash and die extremely often), and it's extremely smooth (but not in the good way). I tried the level editor and after five minutes immediately shut the game down. I don't like the style of the game, and the effect overload. You spend the first five minutes of the game watching text and colours flicker all across the screen. And the backgrounds, why are the backgrounds almost the same colour as the things that can kill me? This has thrown me all off, and the game feels frustrating to play. I feel like it's the game's fault when I die, which isn't the case in a lot of other games I play. I didn't even touch the public levels. I'll play for a bit longer to see if I change my mind, but it's not fun to play.

I think this totally has the potential to be good but I think the overall functionality of this game is really holding it back

the controls are very fimmicky and the dash can be incredibly weird to use, and the editor feels poorly thought out as it's features are just kinda thrown around in random menus making actually doing anything in it a chore and for some reason

I think if the animations and what not could be edited similarly as you could in adobe animate it'd be a thousand times better even with with the weirdly sensitive controls and poor optimization

in it's current state I just genuinely cannot recommend it

Was not a fan of the UI and not liking the character design imo
