I am not looking for a fix to access the busted and mostly non-functional Gun Media servers. I will host it myself.
If someone can help with this, I would appreciate it
In generic terms, the database is basically just a spreadsheet of all your progress, like perk names, xp, level, etc. etc. Any admin/dev could be able to manipulate that data to level up, level down, and change characters.
My overall idea is to set up a dedicated server like any other game, then a database of it's own. Yes it would reset all progress people had, but that data is also able to be manipulated to bring players (i.e me and my friends that want to play this game together) to whatever values we see fit.
With no support from Gun anymore, I am of the very strong opinion, it's time to hand over the game to mod makers, modders, and let us host our own games with our own friends. If people could actually log in, play with friends, and not have all the busted/hacked issues, the game would remain popular, active and thrive
now someone get to cracking, might not be that hard to change the built in dns/ip server database, the creating one to mimic the original, maybe moreso.
I was worried about this exact issue from the start of the fall, some may not realize it but the game is not really independent of the devs equipment, that stupid "database" that made sure people didnt just open their game file and change level=0 to level=150 or ehh even 999 will break the entire game down to a single player experience only sooner or later. its not like doom from the 90s where i could pop a handful of 486 computers on my network and just link them offline with no ISP.
if it were a 100% true "pier to pier" you would be able to run a game with people on the same network with no internet during a hurricane, power out and nothing but a generator keeping your PC's and router up
im not sure why private server wasnt an option when they were killing off dedicated ones, i feared this all long. allowing a local host is not breaking the law, hell games ran like that for a long time, some still do, you can spot them when you have the option to enter ip/dns when searching for a game host. they should have moved all game save data to the local game files and just allowed someone to be a host in the truest sense and let other clients connect, not rocket science. im sure they were 100% well aware of what they were doing, i mean they were still going to have to host this database themselves. their motives are unclear to me.
It would never work in the modern world or with the gaming community but if everyone was to boycott the TCM game until they resolved the Friday the 13th longevity issue oh they would handle business then. Assuming the TCM devs and F13 devs are even tied together anymore, so many studios production companies etc etc it’s hard to tell who owns what anymore.
Sent you a friend request too
The idea is to preserve and keep old/dead games alive, I have no idea why you’re taking this so wrong/negatively.
Good points. But no, none of the devs anywhere have interest in F13. The entire Staff at Gun moved on a couple years ago and there has not even been basic server maintenance in 18+ months. The "servers" are just on auto-pilot, doing what very broken and limited work they provide to the game in it's current state.
The lawsuit arguments are also not valid tbh. Public information is quite clear, and the lawsuit has been settled, all parties involved have closed. Gun Media 100% can continue to support this game, can assign 4-5 employee's to update, run and open the servers back up to the gaming community.
The final results are very, crystal-lake clear: Gun Media can support the game. They can even create more content like Uber Jason and the space station as a level. They just cannot expand any content related to child Jason or Jason's mother.
This game can remain up and running, and supported by Gun Media. The are willingly choosing not to.
So some kind of true peer to peer connection, player hosted servers, and other options will keep this game going for many years.
Player run servers would also open it up to modding, and the modding community would result in a game thriving
