On end of december 2023, the game will be delisted from all platforms.
BUT it will still be playable online because they will maintain the backend of the game. All game modes will work like today.
On end of december 2024, they closing backend for all platforms.
It means nobody will be able to login and access online modes on all platforms.
Hopefully modders have plans to fix this issue and a community update will be pushed to allow "offline save" on PC.
In others words it means with offline save you will be still able to play online like today.
It will be "unofficial" because Gun Media are lazy to do that theirself. But as there will be no others solutions it's a good solution to keep play with friends and random players.
So after december 2024, only the PC build of the game will have all game modes playable like today at 100%
Agreed, alot of speculation is being thrown around as to why things are happening and i think it boils right down to 2 things, they are to lazy and afraid to do it. they were able to make bug fixes and alter the code to remove dedicated servers without any lawsuit issues, moving to a private host(server) option is completely doable and within their legal rights to do so, they just will not do it. they don't want to dedicate a grain of sand to an ocean of money they made of this. No more blaming lawsuits etc, this time its all on the owners of the games head.
this is the definition of a team that gets a grade F
want to see an example of a team that gets a grade AAA+ go check out No Mans Sky and see what they have done with it.
Given no new content was able to be added to the game, we all knew that and accepted it, its the world of doing business. But that in NO MEANS AT ALL meant that had to abandon this game. anything else heard is nonsense, this game can still be patched all up and could have been for years. They can still do it because they can still sell it. To sell a game they cannot fully support is criminal (hence removing it in dec) the assumption here is that they are to cheap or cant renew the license beyond that. To continue to sell the game code as is past that date would mean either removing all online portions from it or to do whatever needed to be done to be able to keep it up.
So bottom line from what i can ascertain, they have 6 months that the can still do essentially whatever they need to with this game (besides add new content). in that 6 months they could easily alter it to the actual pier to pier / server host type of game, currently it was never actually functioning like that, the host was simply just the user that kept the lobby together and made game play decisions, no "hosting" functions were taking place on the hosts local machine. Remember all the who's going to host private lobbies, who has the best bandwidth etc, that wasn't about what everyone thought it was, its merely the fact that the game is trying to keep everyone's pace at the same rate, which is why people would pop around if they lagged.
Its just terribly sad that this game went from passion to trash in the eyes of everyone involved, copyright holders, game creators, publishing studios and so forth, this could have all been worked out, the "camp blood" crew doing the unofficial game was threatened with a lawsuit, for them to take the time to do it they obviously can still see their is value in the game. nobody threatens modders for modding tons of old DOS games and the ones with value, the developers released remakes for like the classic doom games. this is the equivalent of throwing a 65 inch tv that works just fine in the trash because you want an oled tv and the neighbor has no tv and is begging for one and you wont even sell him your old one at what you paid for it, no you sit at the mailbox by your tv and gaurd it with your life from your neighbor and hand it directly to the garbage truck, and then threaten to sue the sanitation department if you find your tv anywhere other than in a landfill
i have so much HATRED over all of this and blame can be thrown in all directions. this was the best online game i have ever played in my life, and i was playing games before almost anyone had personal computers with modems.
Everyone involved besides the players just wants to burn this game up like Hillary Clinton’s emails and Donald Trumps tax returns and it’s just a fun game everyone here loves.
That’s why it’s so important to pair up with 8 people.
You know they tried killing Jason by drowning him, using machetes and hatchets, drowning him another couple of times, melting him, blowing him out into space, blowing his body parts off and he survived it all,
Should have figured corporate greed would kill him :( at least officially, this game will be modded into all kinds of things and live on I’m sure
I still say screw whoever did not think that adding a way around a company hosted database to future proof the game wasn’t a priority as the end was in sight. Everyone involved seems to not care or want to kill this game, so well ♥♥♥♥ them.
