Why is Jason not afraid of water?

It's a staple in the movies. Jason is scared, no terrified of water. Yet in this game he can swim through the lake no problem. I feel there should be an element where Jason can't follow counselors in the water cause of his phobia or have a way to trick Jason kinda like how Freddy did.

He has also jumped out of the water to grab people multiple times, and I remember one movie where he chased after a ship like a champ. If you get rid of his water ability then counselors will just wait in the water til the match ends.

If you don't count that silly ending of part VIII, the only time Jason looks like he's afraid of water is in Freddy vs Jason. My advice is to not base any of your knowledge about Jason according to this movie.

P.S.: I disregarded the ending of part VIII mostly because he goes underwater more than once in the movie but for god knows why, he's afraid of it in the sewer.

Jason is not afraid of water. He has literally used it in his favor, in part 6 does the same thing as in the game: he dives to try to grab Tommy. The only movie that says this is Freddy vs Jason, but more than fear of water, Freddy reminded him of his drowning, the day the child inside Jason died, when his humanity died. Because a few minutes later he is coming out of the water to kill Freddy and coming out of the water with his head in his hands.

the water phobia thing started in freddy vs jason . Robert englund described Jason as a Great White Shark just this non stop killing machine , They had to give Jason a weakness or lets face it freddy had no chance in hell , the director also said that even though both were bad people had to route for one of them to win the fight so i guess it was just part of humanising jason a bit . at the time that movie came out the number one question was how the hell is freddy going to compete with Jason and the water phobia is what we got , they also made freddys razer glove like 3 x as big in that movie lol but as said allready it was a one time thing Jason being afraid of water was a one time thing and never happened in any previous movies
Part 4 there is 2 kills where he is hiding in the lake , part 6 ends with him under water in the lake
part 7 starts with him in the lake and there is one kill done where he is under water

and the part 8 death , that was not water , that was toxic waste , they were told by that sewer worker just before Jason killed him they had to get out in a hurry because every night at that time they flushed the system with it

Gun Media knows their stuff when it comes to friday the 13th , i would not want to get in any debate with them thats for sure lol

seeing this constant argument from people who have no idea really hurts my soul..... i understand not everyone that will be playing this game really know the history of the franchise but atleast get a clue before you start complaining about things.

Jason was never afraid of water after he becomes reborn as a supernatural killer. He doesn't do any water based kills in Part 2 and 3 but in part 4 he kills a chick in a life raft from under the water in crystal lake.

When he becomes an undead in Part 6, forget it, nothing stops him and water is now part of one of his greatest strengths... In Part 6, 7 and 8 he practically lives in water.

He's literally a machine that fears nothing. The only thing that can control him is his mother but she's dead... any memories of her will trigger him to let his guard down... that's it.

To be fair, I'm not sure Jason realized it was toxic waste when he saw it coming his way. He said something like "Mommy, don't let me drown!" just before the flood reached him so if anything, he was more afraid to drown(again) I guess. Anyway we can all agree that he's not afraid of water.

exactly. Also, it is not even fear of water in that film, is that Freddy made him relive the moment of drowning, teasing, the moment he lost his connection with humanity. Because when he wakes up, there is a moment where he jumps out of the water to kill Freddy and at the end comes out of the water with the head of his enemy.

That film has a lot of continuity errors (like all the movies in the franchise xD) but hey, it's a guilty pleasure, without that weakness, Freddy had no chance.
