Depends on the age we are talking here. Is that kid playing friday 13th still being breastfed or something. They don't need someone to be watching them 24/7 like they are being left in the tub to drown. I don't have kids but I can't imagine any sane parent being that invasive with personal space besides tiger mums that don't allow any electronics in the house.
But yeah, none of our opinions will change anything but it's nice to get different opinions on a subject to try and change readers/lurkers minds if they clicked this topic wondering the same thing.
If we are really talking about opinions, I think people who let their kids walk to primary school by themselves is worst than letting a kid play friday 13th and talk to strangers - voice chat in friday isn't like msn where you will get a random pedo sending you a dickpic.
So any household that doesn't have an older brother/sister to watch over their kids are bad parents? 9 & 13 is old enough to be left home alone while parents work. Parent can't control what kids do in their free time other than restricting allowance (or taking their government youth allowance) so they can't afford anything and/or not giving them freedom to hang with friends where they might buy games/mic etc without their knowledge. My parents forces my little brother to play in the living room but honestly he could easily play whatever the hell he wants while they are at work. Surprisingly, he just plays minecraft and nintendo games. So I don't think the blame it soloy on the parents but on the kids for abusing their parents trust. No parenting method is a foul proof way of not getting your kid to grow up as a little ♥♥♥♥ or serial killer because our brains all work different.
I used myself as example in that sense, I am not the only one looking after my brothers, of course the my parents do their share too to look after the children. Of course parents don t have all time in the world to look after their children, but a minimum should be there. And yes Parents can to some extend control what they do in their free time. When given technology like a PC or console, appropriate use has to be taught. And any PC or Console has means to block Conent unfit for Children, Steam has that too. And if not that, as long the Children dont work at the age 13, they won´t have 40€ over for buying a violent game, and therefore making sure where the money flows. You are right though that there is no fool-proof method, but way too often have i asked the children if their parents aren´t bothered by them playing such games and many times they answered that they just don´t care, which really really makes me sad.
Like I said in my Post above, there is Children who are a bit ahead of their age and can realize that this could influence them badly and therefore are safe from eventual alterations to their behaviour, but they are the minority. Age ratings are there for a reason and should be respected if possible.
Ratings are just a joke sadly.
So we are stuck with it, no matter what we think of it. I just leave the lobby if there is only kids or one young one not shutting up even if his life would depend on it...
Minimum working age here is 13 (Australia). Also birthday money from grandma or even lucky money. I would argue that it might impact the kid if they get the money taken off them or they have no control over what they do with money they get given. I don't know when boys balls drop but I imagine it won't be until they are like 16 or something so that is a long time to hover over them.
Yeah, ratings are needed on games. I don't remember what my original point was other than it's easy to access the games on steam. Steam just asks for your age when you browse a game and it doesn't even need to be the right birth date that you set on your account. If steam doesn't care then I don't think developers should put more effort to care either.
There is Child Protection software on Steam that can restrict higher rated games for children playing on the computer, but yet again, in most cases the children know way more more about their PC than their parents do.
if you worry about your kid being badly influenced by a video game the problem is your parenting or your parents parenting and not the game itself. no sane kid with good parents plays a violent game and thinks "oh cool better grab a hockey mask and impale my classmates with an iron fence piece now" you can teach a child to know right from wrong and fiction from reality from a early age on and if you dont thats your problem not that of other parents that you dont even know but like to judge so much. the fact you think 12 year olds are still to be treated and still think like 2-5-7 year olds do show me you have absolutely no knowledge at all and prob had a ♥♥♥♥♥♥ upbringing (sorry man) and just want to complain about something because your life is going too well right now.
go outside for once and stop complaining about pointless ♥♥♥♥. buy yourself a mountain bike or smth smh
Idiot kids will be idiot parents mostly. These parents had a similar childhood probably their parents didn't give a ♥♥♥♥ about them.
