It depends on who you ask. I think they make too much of a departure to be actually part of the story. I could let 9 slide and say "Ok, yeah." Jason X on the other hand I don't think fits very well as part of the story, but was still cool as a standalone "What if?" type of thing.

Considering that when pre-upgrade Jason X is awoken aboard the ship, he was frozen the way he was for years they said after he was trapped in that freezer type of thing. And that was after he escaped MILITARY custody???. How the hell did the military get their hands on him?. Regardless, he ripped them apart whilst taking numerous gunfire, so he must have been undead back in that time period.

So most likely it wasn't intended to be a part of the main story, but how does that explain him being undead??? .... and he gets confused when the Summer Camp simulation is played as a hallucination, so that shows he must have remembered his time at Camp Crystal Lake. (which is obviously a part of the main story) .... so it's anyone's guess really, it is and it isn't.

They found him frozen somewhere near Camp Crystal Lake. At the beginning of the movie it was some archeologists from the future that found him while exploring an earth that could no longer support life. I also think he looked less undead than in previous installments. As for him remembering Crystal Lake it is just part of his background in general and is really about the only thing aside from Jason himself that ties that movie to the series. Overall I think Jason X was made simply to try to keep Jason relevant while they were trying to come up with a FvJ and to take advantage of the Sci fi trend that was happening at the time. It never really felt like a continuation to me.

Edit: I overshot the number of movies which are part of the original license.

I'm siding with the original licensed canon. F13 1-8. Despite 8 being laughably awful, even by 80s cheesy horror movie standards.

I like to think of it was 1-8 happen in our reality and the other movies happen in an alternate reality. So say 1-8 is Reality 1, then nine is reality 1.1 because it is close to being with reality 1. Jason X is reality 3. Remake is reality 4. Nightmare on elm street is reality 2. Jason vs freddy is reality 1.5 with them being together

jason goes to hell makes a bit of sense in the cannon if you factor in freddy vs. jason. at the end of jason goes to hell, well, jason gets dragged down to hell, and at the beginning of freddy vs. jason, freddy was saying that he'd found jason in the pits of hell. it would also make a bit of sense that jason would be all bloated and tumory in jason goes to hell after his toxic waste bath at the end of jason takes manhattan, which would also explain why his mask is fused to his face in jason goes to hell, if he'd tried to put it back on after his toxic bath it probably would get stuck in his melting flesh. but then again, aside from 3 and 4, jason's clothing and state of decay and damage are never consistant.

I class them and Freddy be Jason.

I really disliked the remake and was hoping the new film was going to link to the old series for me.

Unfortunately it got cancelled.

I'm not usually prone to crapping on a project in development, but the team who was working on the new F13 movie didn't give me a sense that they understood the source material.

Who knows? Maybe Rob Zombie will take a crack at it, if he can figure out a way to fit Sheri Moon Zombie in as a counselor.

Lol yeah you know he would.
As Jason Mum who visits him in spirit form. I did like aspects of Halloween one and am a big Malcolm mcdowell fan.

I can't crap on zombie though I am a big fan of devils rejects. I'm interested in seeing his latest film 31.

I heard one of the rough drafts for Friday was set back in the 80s before they rejected it. Maybe whoever gets the rights will do something decent

Yeah. I'm taking a stab at Zombie but it is just in jest. His contributions to horror films are greatly underappreciated and he turned out to be a much more capable horror director than most people expected him to be.

I recall watching a trailer for House of a 1000 Corpses in theaters. When the screen emitted "A film by Rob Zombie." Some of the audience audibly laughed. For a guy who had a hit song about driving a vehicle from The Munsters, it seemed unlikely he could pull off a true tale of terror. But, he sure did.

Yeah I liked house of 1000 corpses as well. I saw the behind the scenes documentary for devils rejects him seems to have a good mind and passion for all the classic horror films.

He sure likes to add his twists to them, when he is doing his own ideas I do enjoy them. I haven't seen the lords of salem or 31 yet.

Lords of Salem didn't sell me. I thought it would by its premise, but I feel it shifts too quickly with little guidance. It might be the film's intention, but it doesn't do so in a manner reflecting of the classics it is attempting to emulate.

31 though. Haven't seen it yet. Stay tuned.

Yeah I heard salems was a big shift from his normal style.

How do you rate the Halloween remakes?

Great reboots. John Carpenter even contributed to the first one I believe.

Jason X and Jason goes to hell are not cannon to me. The idea of jason in manhatten. Ok. I could do that. 900 years in the future. No. In space. Even more no. The idea of jason being a worm. HELL no.
