Counselor Tips and Tricks
Before we start, you can check out the thread on Jason tips and tricks here in discussions under the same name.

So people say that counselors suck and cry all the time about how hard it is to play as a counselor and how easy it is to play Jason. well. ive done both. and depending on the group of people. the experience is wildly different. It is my hope that this will be of help to new and existing players as more times than not, you will be a counselor. get used to it. and wear it like a second skin. because if you dont. Jason will wear your skin. you dont want that.

1. Know your Counselor: this should be obvious. every counselor has strengths and weaknesses. play to your counselors strengths. If you hate how they play but love the look, unfortunately, theres nothing i can do to save you. you will die if you do not do this. Understand their stats and use their advantages to get an edge.

2. Find perks that will play to your characters strengths and mitigate weaknesses: this is a little harder as the perk system is random. but at level 26, i have a great foray of skills to draw from, some of them are epic and even work together. these perk skills can give you all kinds of edges from which to draw from, and if you dont like what you get, sell what you dont like and reroll.

3. WORK TOGETHER: This probably shouldve been number one, but considering the first two needed to be addressed. this is number three. working together provides many benefits. Jason has to work double time keeping up with multiple targets. Jason is inherently slow so if her tries to get in a fight with three counselors, if you have a variety of tools at your disposal between the three of you, hes going to have a hard time fighting you. working together also makes for completing objectives easier, and in the case of escaping using the police method, working together greatly increases your odds of everyone escaping.

4. Know your tools: Counselors have a huge array of tools at their disposal. figure out the use for all of them and gain an edge.

5. When and when not to use hiding spots: Hiding spots have their uses, but only when Jason hasnt seen you go to one. in an example. lets say their are four cabins, and one of the other players is being pursued. if Jason was looking in the direction of your cabin using sense and sees that the red around it disappears without someone leaving the building, he knows youre hiding. a resourceful jason will just start smashing all of the windows and walk in, systematically destroying all of the beds and closets until he finds you. however, if he wasnt paying attention initially, its as if no one is there at all. ive heard that this changes once he is in rage, but for most of the game, this will hold true. if you know youre not going to be able to save your friend, hide. if he starts breaking windows in your cabin, hes already onto you.

6. Have a plan for your next move: remember the multiple cabin scenario? you and your friends were likely looking for things in those cabins. when you enter a new cabin make sure that all of the outside doors are locked. also, make sure any single windows that you can open are open. unless jason uses combat stance to break them, rarely does a regular attack destroy them once open. then think about how you will either backtrack or move to the next cabin. jumping through broken windows does damage to you and multiple jumps can kill you. Heath Sprays can be found in bathrooms in many cabins and in the large bathroom on the crystal lake map. rarely will you find one in a drawer.

7. Fighting Jason: Fighting Jason rarely ends well for a counselor unless they get lucky or have a Pocket Knife. but if youre working as a group of two or three, if jason attempts a grab have one counselor stand in front of jason and the other attack him with a stun. if youre successful what will happen is it will give your friend time to break free of his grasp since jason will have a very hard time having room to perform an execution if for some reason the stun fails. if the victim gets away high tail it out of the area and try to stay together. Jason will have a far easier time picking you off one by one in the open.

8. Firecrackers: Firecrackers can be used on Jason after he has hit a door two or three times, throw them right at the door and move to your next spot, while hes stunned he cant move the camera position for a couple of seconds so assuming he was looking forward, make your next move out of his field of vision. that close to a cabin even with sense enabled, and all he will likely see is red on the cabin until you leave. you might leave him confused enough to hop in a cabin and hide, giving you more time to recover stamina and plan your next move. Firecrackers can also be dropped while running. if hes behind you about 5 to 10 feet more times than not if hes prusuing you he will run right through them.

9. Ki Ki Ki Ma Ma Ma: anytime you hear this, Jason has gotten access to one of his abilities. the order for new players is as follows:

Jason has Morph right off the bat. this will bring up a minimap and allow jason to appear literally anywhere on the map. Cooldown for this is around 30 seconds to a minute depending on the variant.

1> Sense: Sense is his ability to see the fear of the counselors. almost like predator vision. you avoid this by maintaining your fear level. Composure is the skill that affects this the most. and low composure will make you show up far quicker than with high composure. you can combat this by using the flashlight in dark areas, staying in well lit areas, and hiding in hiding spots. from what i can tell. this effect stacks, so it does pay to keep the power generators operational in the camp. Some perks like Night Owl will help to mitigate this affect as well, so bear that in mind. if you are in high fear, your stamina bar will start to go from red to a purpleish color, really high fear will darken the borders of the screen making seeing the minimap, stamina bar and any other detail nearly impossible. if your character has reached this point, its is next to impossible to revert it to normal levels, as Jason will likely kill you before you have a chance to.

2> Shift: Shift is his ability to disappear and move across the map at incredible speed to close in on a victim. if jason is pursuing you after you hear this a second time,if he disappears be prepared to have him land right on top of you. jason can initiate an attack and grab from this state, so you need to stay moving in an unpredictable pattern and try to keep obstacles between yourself and where jason is presumably. he cant fly through fences and trees and other obstacles so keep that in mind.

3> Stalk: Stalk is Jasons ability to kill his tension music. the amount of time depends on whether he is moving or not. moving this only lasts about 25 to 30 seconds. if he stands still however, the average is around two minutes. Jason can use this to effectively dissappear and use sense to find victims and if they are in stalk range, can immediately close in on a unsuspecting victim. Additionally if hes attacking your cabin and decides hed rather wait it out for you to make a mistake. he can wait for at least 2 minutes. if you try to sneak out in that time. he can go in for the kill while youre jumping out of a window. bear that in mind.

4> Rage: while i dont know if the sound plays for this one, i feel its important to note it. Once Jason has Rage, all bets are off from escaping through the methods above. he can walk through barricaded doors and some walls, his sense ability range is doubled, and he does increased damage. youre chances of survival dramatically decrease once this occurs.

Objectives:

This section describes the objectives that will help you escape before the 20 minutes runs out.

Cars: This one seems to be the favorite of most players but is the most difficult to do without teamwork. there are one or two cars on each map. each car is missing the car keys, the battery and gas. these can usually be found in nearby cabins. to do this quickly, you will need to work together to do so. if both cars are repaired and operational, a theoretical total of 6 people will escape assuming jason doesnt stop the car and kill everyone inside.

Risk: High (As the four door is usually a Jason Players primary target.)

Boat: the Boat is similar to the car, but requires a lesser amount of effort. additionally, it is not considered high priority by most players since its a two seater and Jasons usually almost ignore it. players need the boat propeller and fuel to get it working. try to do it in one go because if Jason notices the motor in the water, he will likely target it as a point of interest.

Risk: Moderate to Low

Police: Calling the Police requires installing a fuse into the fuse box and calling on the phone in the building the fuse box is located in. there is a 5 minute countdown from the time of the call to the time that the police arrive meaning that surviving that period of time is the biggest risk. enterprising players should they work in a group will have pocket knives and firecrackers to stun jason as they make their way to the exit making this one of the easiest ways to escape if counselors work together.

Risk: Moderate (Jason has the location of the fusebox on his map. he may target it with bear traps and check the house from time to time.)

10: Movement: Depending on the character and what you are trying to achieve, how you move is as important as almost everything else above. you have four modes from quietest to loudest: crouching walking jogging and sprinting. how much noise you make overall is affected by your stealth score. but generally, you make less noise performing actions while crouched vs full on sprint. jason can detect noise being made through circles that show up all over the map. the less noise you make the higher the chance that you wont be one of those circles. Jason can track a person who makes a lot of noise. depending on what you are trying to achieve, keep this in mind.

11: Pocket Knives: pocket knives are your friend and if you find one, be greatful. they are this games get out of being executed free card. Jason is usually the clingy type but the problem with that is it winds up with you getting decapitated. they can buy you some time to escape if you are grabbed. if he doesnt move from the spot that you were in before you were grabbed, be sure to grab your weapon off the ground before you run off. Additionally they can be used to disarm Jasons bear traps.

12: Maps and Radios: Maps and Radios are great in this game. while most are found in drawers, there are perks that will give you one right off the bat and something i learned recently, Maps can also be found in the maps board at all of the camps (Who knew?) you can use the map to find all of the points of interest, see where other players are and the names of those locations so you can tell people where something is with a degree of accuracy. you can use the radio to communicate with other radio wielding players as well. this will help you to coordinate your efforts and keep others apprised of the situation.

If theres anything i missed, feel free to let me know.
