The fat guy with perfect repair isn't an awful choice either. Although I admit I do prefer AJ a bit more.
Please someone correct me if I'm wrong... I need faith in a counselor that isn't Mason or any high stealth character...
The way to play non-stealth characters is to stop caring about noise early on and work with your teammates. Or in the case of Chad, let your teammates fix up the car whilst you hold onto both sets of keys and then take off when they're distracting Jason.
BUT... It seems you aren't rewarded for "tanking".. So you're basically giving everyone XP, while you just struggle for nothing. Naturally, I was all alone, since my teammates played fast characters and ran the hell away.
Anyway... Playing a Stealth character seems more rewarding, since you can "maybe" escape... And louder characters are basically deadmeat except if you're extremely lucky. Just imagine a game where you're the only loud character and you can't even run for 5 seconds due to your low stamina.. Meh.. You're ♥♥♥♥♥♥. :S
Naturally, I'm not complaining, and I can see the appeal in playing loud characters, but.. You just get nothing out of it, minus being a spectator. xD
