How to activate red bricks

Hold space or whatever brings up the character select wheel and pick the red brick from the lower left

Make sure you first have enough studs to buy the red bricks. And also make sure you have actually unlocked the red bricks you want to use first, by finding them in the levels. If there is a picture of a lock over the red brick, it obviously can not be used. If it also has a price in studs, it is not unlocked yet. Once you unlock them by buying them, click them again, and a green checklmark will appear indicating that they are active.
