because Japanese devs don't trust the western market any more, which is where that "Japan first" idea even came from.

That attitude has ALWAYS existed. It's not a recent development in the least. In fact, the reverse is slowly happening now with Japanese devs liberally borrowing elements of western design when they used to believe they always knew best.

It only reinforces why the Japanese dubs should be retained. This is a Japanese game made for Japanese people. The same could be said to any material that is dubbed in a language where it's not appropriate thematically. I say this due to being raised to years of horrible dubs of white people speaking in my mother tongue. It was god awful and thank god I learned to read and speak english quickly so that I could watch american movies the right way.

I agree with you on principle, but unfortunately the licensing rules in Japan are incredibly draconic to the point the voices aren't always going to come over and there's nothing the publishers and localization teams can really do about it. Japan's heavily tradition-based and their bureaucracies are heavily resistant to change.

Developers already said it is not going to happen, at least they are not going to do it.

If its English-only. I am not buying it.

Not buying a game because it does not have japanese voices is as retarded as playing hide and seek with a blind guy seeking, but each to is own I guess.

And God Eater Burst was English only, and the voice acting was fun, so I don't know why people keep complaining about japanese voices, you would probably not do a better voice acting yourself.

Your comparison with hide & seek doesnt make much sense, since it would fit better if i was INDEED playing the english version... since you know... thats the one with inevitable errors inaccuracies...

Anyway, when you speak 5 other languages, you start to see how "wrong" a translation/dub can be. In any medium, thats what experience has shown me and unless i am listening to something dubbed for fun (like some brazilian dubs of famous action movies), there is little point in prefering the dub over the original material.

Since your portuguese, i will assume you understand how wrong some portuguese to english dubs (and vice versa) are done. With japanese its even more so, since for some reason english localization love to "americanize" everything to a rather annoying level. We all saw FF 7's translations and how they even changed tone in many scenes.

Heck, i have read recently regarding game localization that leaving japanese honorifics in the translation is a sign of a "bad translation", as if nobody knew them already!

I mean, its 2016! Whoever is into japanese games today certanly know all the damn honorifics, but we have to have silly translations regardsless.

And lets not speak of the dub's quality, its extremely rare for a dub to be actually better than the original source material (but they do happen, like MGS). From what i have seen on youtube, God's Eater is the norm, not exception.

Dubs are good for the people who dont care for the story and just wanna play the game on superficial level.

Its like complaining about 60 & 120 FPS, some people dont care for it, others do.

Have you played God Eater Burst?? It was English only as well, and the translation and voice acting were good.

Actually, Portugal does not create any games/shows, so we have nothing for others to translate.
The only things we actually translate from other languages are Disney movies and kid's shows, movies usually have good translation, and kids shows are only translated cuz kids cannot understand other languages.

They might not want to take the costs to bring japanese language over to western countries, cuz it is kinda of expensive.

If the lack of japanese actually turns you off from buying a game you might actually come to enjoy, you might want to set some priorities, cuz the dub might be the least of your concerns.

But as you said, some like it some don't, i just think that people who complain about a game not having X language in it, might want to find something better to do.

And in case you do not know, the voice licensing in Japan is rough, and the game developing team has 0 power on voice licensing, so if japan does not want their language out, there is nothing Namco can do, go blame Japan (wich is the language you want in the game), not the companies.

I dont have nothing better to do as of late :P

Currently finished pretty much my japanese game backlog, except for Rune Factory that i am playing emulator.

At any rate, people keep saying "licensing is rough" in japan but it isnt any diferent than the UK (or in, fact, brazil). It is diferent than America, where the actors themselves have waaaaaay less say in their work and no real control over it.

As you said tho, bringing the JP dub would imply sharing $$$ with all those involved with it. I will still blame Bamco, since that is waaaay more belivable than the VO company in japan refusing money for no reason.

No, there actually is a big difference in Japan compared to those other countries. In Japan it's down to every actor individually to decide if they want to license (and they get paid separately too,) yet if one prices too high or doesn't sell (it happens mostly due to good old Japanese xenophobia) none of them can be licensed. It's just how the system works, backwards as it is.

Companies are NOT dealing with an agency representing the VAs. They have to deal with the VAs themselves (and often in person, so you have to factor in all the travel costs too)

Someone will rip the japanese audio files, just wait for it and remember that you can always refund the game if you don't like it, it's your right and you should exercise it. I will give it a try and see if i'm comfortable with the voice acting. I don't speak english so it just sounds weird to me. And i'm not opposed to muting the voices if the game is good, sometimes dialog is distracting, especially when it feels like the actors are just reading a script like they would a newspaper. I don't like judging stuff before i try them, be it by hyping it or downright bashing.

Now it's ultimately your choice but my advice would be for you to try it and then if needed refund it. I know english sounds weird when it comes to jrpgs and anime, because we are just used to hearing japanese in them, not english, because again we don't hear the language on a daily basis.

Yeah, it's a bummer not to have the japanese audio. English is not my native tongue, and it really feels jarring to see Japanese characters talk in english.

It seems that it is hard to understand for some people that English isn't always someones native language.

Always hearing those mostly monotone American voice actors in Japanese games is just annoying... The English dubs just really lack emotion where the Japanese voices mostly never have this problem. So yeah I rather go for Japanese voices then poor English dubs.

And for this game. I wish Namco Bandai did offer Japanese voices for al their releases and not just randomly some games. They should work on that.

I'm not going to buy this game for full price for this reason. Maybe when it is in sale I'll give it a try or when they decide to release the Japanese voices as dlc. I would not mind paying a bit extra for it since the Japanese audio option can be more expensive then a cheap English dub. However I don't prefer that option...

Otherwise I wait for a very cheap sale next year or so when I also have worked towards my backlog. Maybe then I don't want it anymore too who knows.

Edit: typo

Japanese voice DLC is extremely unlikely to happen as it didn't happen with GE1 in any form.

Namco is unable to license the voices. Whether it's one or more VAs charging ridiculous prices or saying no to licensing, those voices are never going to come out in any official capacity.
