Freedom Wars is more complicated in a sense, for starters the crafting system can get a bit wonk in Freedom Wars but if you hang in there you will figure it out eventually, then there is combat which is pretty much gun and sword combat (Like God Eater), then you have the grappel hook which makes gameplay a bit more unique. All in all Both Series are great (Note I have God Eater Resurrection English version on my PS Vita as well as Freedom Wars) They are both Monster hunting type games but both are unique yet not unique at the same time. If you have a Vita I recommend you try out freedom wars.
I suggest watching some Videos on Freedom Wars to see the differences in general as it's hard to explain

Freedom wars lacked any kind of balance that made the game a whole lot harder and it required you to mod your weapons perfectly to do the post game stuff. In reality that game is only like maybe 20-30 hours (including post game). The game was great till the final boss of the main story, though. After that you just started raging at how unfair the balance was. It did have the most interesting mechanics of a monster hunter estique. You had to save people from the monsters or survive for a X amount of minutes. There were stealth missions, but those were boring.

God eater is more forgiving and more fun in my opinion. Balance is much higher. It's pretty much a fast paced monster hunter that lacks climbing and mounting monsters. It makes up for that with the main story of over 50 hours and bullet customization and two weapons instead of one. The story might not be the best thing and it is full of cliches from time to time, but it's better than what monster hunter has ever produced (well that game isn't meant to have a story anyway).

i've played Freedom Wars on PS Vita from 2014 when it first released in NA to the middle of 2015, around maybe between Q2 and Q3 2015 to be exact. It was great times that was had. The reason I ask is because even though it's obviously anime art style, the actual artistic nature/character models greatly remind me of Freedom Wars of what is being displayed in GE:R and GE2:RB.

Even though they look close (granted God Eater 2 and Res looking a lot better since they're in 1080p + 60 frames.) I was wondering which game has the more fast paced action battle/combat between the two.

It started out as manga from 2009

The story is mostly mediocre/decent. It's the typical teenage hero that finds out something bigger is going on. While saving the world he has a waifu that looks like a slut, but seems to be innocent and hates men, but falls inlove with him.

I wrote one of the guides for Freedom Wars and have played GE and GE2.

While you didn't have to have perfect weaponry to do well, you either needed really good weaponry or you needed decent weaponry and good knowledge of enemy mechanics and field layout due to the enemies gaining much more HP and damage in later points.

I personally used an air combat build for fun and point blank shotgun build for fast kills/farming runs. (You could do both, but I preferred to specialize and have both my weapons be for the same purpose)

I found the final boss to be mostly annoying since there are many mechanics to the final boss.

A really interesting thing with the FW game was the setting.

===

That said, Freedom Wars did have a lot more balance issues. While you could make up for those balance issues, it could be very frustrating. A lot of the game is grinding/farming and making better gear.

God Eater in general feels more polished with balancing. You still needed decent gear, but a lot of the game is designing bullets (sort of like spells in other games, except you can really customize them).

As for the 'customization' parts of the game...

FW customization was a lot more RNG. You needed to get specific materials to transfer over traits and specific weapons with your desired traits (or rely on RNG). Then you had to deal with RNG to get those traits transferred over and hopefully get new traits that you wanted without losing traits you wanted.

GE customization is a lot more creativity and skill. You have a certain amount of points per bullet. You can then use your points to make bullets that do various things.

Like I had one bullet that would fly at my allies and heal them. I had one bullet that would keep my allies in the air, another one to pull them towards me and another to push them away (even ones to move them in different directions, but those tended to be for specific bosses). I even had bullets designed to lock an enemy in place or move enemies. In other words, I played a support gunner.

Other people would have bullets that were more designed for pure damage or doing specific effects. You had orbital bombardment type bullets, flamethrower bullets, circle chain implosion/explosion types, sticky bomb types, 'punch' types, etc.

Freedom Wars was fun mechanically but the story was so contrived and awful I just straight up quit the game at one point. And to clarify, the setting and idea were good. I'm talking the actual story. It was just abysmal.

I think the translation made it a lot worse. There are a lot of differences in the JP version. Not so much that it is a completely different story, but enough so that the way the story is conveyed changed.

That said, GE definitely is better in terms of story.

Freedom Wars started great with how it tries to immerse you on the dystopian setting with the absurd rules and point system. Even tiny details like confirming result screen & rules using the touchpad is implying that you used a fingerprint signature to sign a contract/report. Too bad midway that kind of nice stuff is totally gone.

Funny thing is Sony Japan's marketing for Freedom Wars is pretty crazy, like assigning a pair of celebrities for each prefectures of Japan and making idol-type music with sarcastic-ish lyrics fitting of the setting (that for some reason still runs until now even though there's still no news of sequel). Meanwhile there's barely any marketing for the English release to the point of IGN hiring Hulk Hogan to promote it (not even joking).

There's also a dramatized report of monthly prefecture ranking on the game's site and special events every now and then. The English release had none of those. It's like Sony gave up on the game before it's even released.

Really sad that the series most likely won't continue since while it's pretty rough, it was pretty cool for a first try and have huge potential. I mean, even Monster Hunter and God Eater had rather rough first entry too.

Yeah, that is part of the issue. In the JP version, there is HUGE support for Freedom Wars.

In the NA version (not sure about EU), there is no support at all. Essentially it was released and all but abandoned. They didn't even bother localizing it properly. You have text that makes no sense because they messed up horribly on translation and you have stuff that was removed because they couldn't be bothered as it was too hard for them to localize.

fw were a great game but sony already abandoned first party release for vita after this game released on west pretty much no sequel for those cliffhanger ending
or they will decided to release the sequel on ps4 just like gravity rush (which is another great game for vita )

I love both, but Freedom Wars isn't the same kind of game. A LOT of people mistake it for a hunting game, but its really more like Lost Planet.
TheGZeus 16 AGO 2016 a las 19:17
I liked both, but I was terrible at Freedom Wars.
