About weapons
Just finished resurrection and most of its challenges, and i have to say the short blade is just insanely powerful, fast attack and combo cancel whenever you want. You can just stack stamina, reduce step stamina usage, multi step, and attack hp absorb and you become invincible, you can't be hit. The short sword carried me through the whole game and i could even solo the final boss, arius nova was it? That sword made every mission trivial. I didn't even use my weapon.

So i just started god eater 2 and what a surprise the short sword is still powerful but i didn't want to ruin the fun again so i tried the rest of the weapons. The blade is just as op, the buster blade is a pain to use, the spear is super strong too i like it, the hammer is cool looking but it's super clumsy and the scythe is sooo bad...

Couldn't decide on a weapon so i'll just use whatever you recommend.

Have you gotten to the point where you unlock blood arts yet? I'd wait to pick a weapon once you've tried out a few weapons with blood arts (I at first loved the boost hammer until I found that I prefered the blood arts of other weapons). Here's my personal thoughts on each of the melee weapons in rage burst (both from personal experience and watching speedruns against end-game enemies and +99 perilous challenge runs).

Short blade: Not as OP as people say it is in resurrection (still playing through resurrection at the moment), but it's still good. Good mobility and some pretty decent blood arts. Definitely a viable pick for end-game but perhaps not the best of the best if you're looking for top-tier speedruns.

Long blade: My personal favorite weapon and main weapon still. Incredible mobility with the right blood arts, great combo ability with zero stance, and overall an easy weapon to pick up and use. Unfortunately, it seems to be at the bottom of the barrel for end-game content, but its mobility definitely makes up for it IMO.

Buster blade: Not a fan of the slow, immobile weapons, but this is no doubt one of the top-tier weapons in the game alongside the charge spear. Has a few viable end-game builds and the charged attack is incredibly strong (similar to the greatsword in mh4u if you've played it). Combine that attack with the stealth field on the sniper, and you have one devastatingly good combo against unaware arigami.

Charge spear: Also one of the top-tier weapons in the game. Personally not a big fan, but I wish I could play this well. Tons of mobility with the backflip + dash combo and the charge-dash attack. Deals a ton of damage too. An absolute beast of a weapon in the right hands and no doubt one of the best, if not the best, weapons in the game. However, I personally find it one of the hardest to use. The backflip + dash combo is hard to get used to and the charged dash can be hard to land on enemy weak points.

Boost hammer: Seems to be the bottom of the barrel, but it's hard to judge since very few speedrunners use it outside of very gimmicky strategies as far as I can tell. I liked the weapon at first, but it's a bit too slow against the faster arigami and I couldn't find a decent blood art that I liked with it.

Variant scythe: A popular pick. Lots of viable builds and arguably one of the better weapons for aerial fighting (for those pesky sariels mainly). If I'm not playing long blade, this is my go-to back-up. With the amount of viable options, it's hard to go wrong with this one against any enemy. It's also great for players who like to sit back an gun arigami down since it's fast attacks build OP relatively quickly and the round fang attack gives a lot of range. Did I also mention that this weapon is great for breaking bonds? A lot of the scythe's attacks hit multiple times allowing you to easily hit every part of the arigami. It's not difficult to break all the arigami's bonds every fight, which makes it great for farming materials too. The only major drawback is the lack of mobility.

Final notes: I'd give each weapon a try and get a feel for them with different blood arts. Experiment. Then decide. I'd personally say that the scythe is fairly hard to go wrong with even if you don't like it in the end. Although, I do like weapons with mobility (long blade, short blade, charge spear) as you can keep up with the faster arigami and gives more openings for devours (keeping your burst is vital IMO).

Yeah i got to the blood arts part. I had prety much the same opinion after spending a few hours playing. The knife and blade are out for me, they are too similar. Tried the hammer a LOT, as i said before the weapon is just too clumsy. My two favourites so far are the spear and the scythe, the scythe does shred bonds but i found hard to aim at specific spots with it, it just hits everywhere. I might go with the spear honestly but i'm trying to like the scythe because the spear has good precision and is fast, like the knife (you could even poke with the knife) and i want to change my playstyle. The buster blade was just too slow for me, i simply don't like it, it frustrates me.

So yeah i will either use the spear or the scythe. Or the buster blade if want to have a bad time for a change.

I actually found the boost hammer to be my favorite in 2 due to the boost dash and the ability to wail on an enemy for like 7k a swing rapid fire. It completely sucks versus arial enemies but when they fall you can go to town. With Iron heart you can also tank through a ton of hits. That being said, the varient scythe is pretty awesome for raising oracle, breaking bonds, spreading status effects(since it hits like 20 times a swing) and clearing areas with tons of aragami running around. I hate the buster sword, I like the advanced guard but it has no mobility. Spear and and short blade are middle of the road for me. You can get great mobility but neither of them have the same oomph as the hammer.
