Assault or Blast?
I like how you can just shoot as much as you want as assault and you're mobile, but I like the dmg of blast but it takes long to even shoot again. How are they both later on?

Assault if you want a gun that has OP regaining bullets (you can pretty much play the whole mission with it alone) or Blast if you want a gun with a ♥♥♥♥ ton of recipes (OP heavy eating bullets but hard hitting)

Your choice

Blast are blatantly overpowered after you get trigger happy and frugal, you might not need to hit your enemy at all. Just gulp a lot of OP ampule, unleash the hell and mission clear.

Assault gets more benefit during early game where you can spam bullet infinitely even without frugal and trigger happy.

Both get more powerful with Blood Rage abuse, but in term of DPS, blast will still win later on, though Assault still very viable. Choose what you prefer most and what seems more fun to you.

I've been playing GER and I just can't get a good feel for the blast cannons. At difficulty 10 and I've never gotten them to do more than 1500 damage. They can do some entertaining things from a visual effect standpoint though. Personally I've gotten a lot more use out of the other types of guns with simpler recipes. Assault is great for homing head shots and op regeneration. Sniper is great for pierce damage when you need it. And shotgun is fun for the "ignores defense" spread option.

Oh, and I find having to do the R+O oracle storing action 10~20 times per mission really annoying.

Blast are god tier in this game due to blood bullets.
You can murderstomp the Crimson Orochi with Meteor bullets and 700% blood rage in less than a minute thanks to jashinsamael... XD

Assault guns have recipes that work great for DPS as well. Usually a quick search can get you an easy, yet very deadly recipe.

Blast guns are great as well, but to obtain everything you need, if you're strictly looking for the skills for the gun itself, takes a while, since you will have to play with it to have a chance of getting a really high skill for it.

You can also always just put skills on a different piece of equipment that you use all the time, but that makes your kit have less variety, so it's not normally recommended if you have the proper skills for the Blast gun.

You can do the same with a short blade and an assault gun at that much blood rage. Really, at 700% blood rage if the thing is still standing by the end of it, you're not doing enough damage.

I mostly like how I can main assault, is that even possible with blast later on? I just like how I could stay in it if i wanted too.

I don't use anything other than blast guns, OP reserve is the best.

Nope. They're very much a one and done cannon unless you're in blood rage.

I'll stick with assault then probably

Technically they end up more a three and done after frugal and trigger happy, but you really are using it to do as much damage as humanly possible per trigger pull. Properly built, you can pretty much max out blood rage's damage requirement in one salvo, then use the infinite ammo to pile on the murder.

Assault is far FAR better for racking up evoke rate, doing sustained damage outside of blood rage, and pairs best with melee weapons that love blood rage, like Short Blade, which has Infernal Vortex, which is pretty much "Destroy target aragami. Kill self" with how much damage it deals to yourself and your victim.

Blast is vastly better with weapons that are dominant outside of blood rage, such as busters.

I think I have longsword/assault atm but I can't decide which two to do. I like being a gunner thats why I did assault, but I can't decide what to do.

Here's a playthrough that features maining both assault and blast to the end of the game. It's still incomplete, but well... you get the idea
