What is the computer requirement for higher setting?
Hi, I was trying to run the process of generating dense point clouds with Ultra preset, but it said "this machine does not have enough resources to run the compulation with the selected settings and might not be able to complete the task", and I try to run the process anyway and it did really crash at the almost end of the process.

My computer spec is:

OS: WINDOWS 10 64BIT
CPU: Inel i7 6700k
GPU: NVIDIA GTX 980Ti
RAM: 16GB
HD: SSD

So I want to know which parts I should upgrade to satisfy the requirement? thanks!

Hi HKChunho,

the ultra setting increases the octree levels, which means that the amount of memory required increases a lot, also depending on the number of input pictures.

I'd say the minimum amount would be 32GB (even better, 64GB) however, it is true that ultra will results in more points, however, i very rarely use that settings. If it's possible, try to simply take a few more pictures and see if High Details is good enough!

Thanks Knu!

Actually I tried to scan my bookshelf with a lot of books on it, which seems pretty good on high detail setting on point cloud, but after I process the mesh generation, seems there are a lot of mess up, maybe there are so many stuff in the scene, so I decided to set it the ultra and gave it a try.

I don't really know much about 3d computer technology, maybe I did some setting wrong, but this software is really fun to me, I think I would get more memory to give it a next try.

Experimenting is fun =) however if you want me to have a look at your dataset feel free to ask, i'll gladly give you some pointers on how to improve your results!

Hey there, sorry for the late answer!

Well, that's a challenging subject indeed =)

I'd try to move the camera a bit (rather than just rotating when taking few shots). However the subject is hard, so i'd probably do it by focusing on more details (i.e. a shelf) than the whole scene.

wrt the shelves, you should probably also take a few shots of the occluded parts since there is no visibilty on some parts.

On a side note, i've personally seen sometimes better results when dealing with iphones camera, when using the videos rather than the photos. Maybe try taking a video and extract the frames and see if it helps!

Nevertheless, fun reconstruction :D

Thanks for the advice, I also thought that I got too few photos for the work, I would give it a good try :)
