from what i see i have two guesses:
1. no more free disk space where zephyr stores temporary files (you can change it in the options)
2. no more ram available
or a combination of the two. Could you please double check for me if you still have free disk space when the problem happens, as well as the free memory you have?
Also, may i ask you what are your pc specs ? You may also try to run it on fast, rather than on default (or switch to advanced and try to lower the discretization value) to see if it goes past that step.
hope this helps! (i will not be in office tomorrow, so i apologize in advance if i may not be able to quickly answer, also i'm going to bed soon =) but i will alert my colleagues about this thread, if we can't solve your issue in the imminent future)
I'm running:
Intel i7-6700K
16GB RAM
NVIDIA GeForce GTX 1080
Windows 10
Thanks for the quick response. I was able to finish the tutorial changing settings to fast instead of default.
I'll run again and see if my free space or RAM maxes out when it hangs. I'm suspecting it's the disk space for temp files. If it defaults to the C: drive that's my solid state drive, and it would fill up quick.
On default settings it maxes out my RAM when it hangs, but the scratch disk seems fine.
On fast settings the RAM usage never rises above 5 gigs the entire process.
I think I can live with the fast setting for now though, results seem to be more than good enough for me.
One question then, how long did you wait on default/close range before declaring a freeze? I agree that the progress bar there is not very helpful, as it might looks stuck but nontheless zephyr is crunching numbers.
May I also ask you a test? Could you please try to reset zephyr to factory settings (from the options dialog) and see if that happens again ?
which settings were you running? may i ask you to send me the log file as well?
i think my colleague already emailed you, thank you for the log.
We're looking into it, although i think it's just a matter of making a better progress bar. It may looks frozen but it should finish.
We're working on 3.1 which hopefully should be out soon :)
we've fixed the slowness / freeze that might happen in this part in our internal build. Since we just entered in the beta testing phase for v. 3.1 of Zephyr - http://3dflowdev.blogspot.it/2017/01/hi-guys-i-guess-iam-first-archaeologist.html - please write us a pm or an email if you are willing to test the new beta version before the official update. We expect to release the official update within the next 2 weeks.
