Star Realms

Cheating is still happening a lot
It has been like this for a long time now.

The classic way of seeing somebody cheating is that you see the sign of your opponent loosing internetconnection, by disonnecting on purpose I guess, and then they come back a little later, having a much stronger deck.

I see this very often.

I don´t know how they do it, but it ruins the online game completely.

White wizard games has been aware of this for so long, and has actually said they would look into it, but nothing happens.

There are other problems as well. I often have to leave the agme to see that I lost, because else it just freezes.

Massive improvements are needed.

It is such a shame, because the game itself is quite fun.

What exactly are you seeing the opponents you believe are cheating doing?

And now they have the Kickstarter going for their other card game, Epic. I sure hope they fix the stupid cheating in that game. I'm not buying into another online card game that I love if they don't get rid of the cheating scumbags.
Star Realms is a unusual mix between luck and skill, where even an experienced player can lose against a less experience players due to literally luck of the draw (how cards end up shuffled and drawn), but the more skilled of a player you are the better your chances are winning.

Cheating does exist, unfortunately, but from an outside perspective it is hard to tell when a player complains about opponents cheating, whether their opponents got lucky, played a little better, or actually cheated.

If you want to be a better player I can link you to articles on how to do so. However, I don't know of any way to help you against cheating or even how to prove a certain player is cheating or not.

Edit: for reference, for the app 1000 top players have on average a 60% win to loss ratio across all of their games, meaning they lose about 2 out of 5 of their games, which is fairly notable/unusual for a game.

Please provide proof of any kind of cheating through support@starrealms.com. If you don't have proof, I am even happy to look at specific games you think were cheated in.

We can't fix issues that we can't find, so unless someone comes with something actionable, you can assume any past issues have been fixed. We have hundreds of thousands of users. If there was wide-spread cheating - I'd like to think we'd be seeing some sort of proof at some point.

Theory: The OP was the one getting disconnected, not his opponents. After missing a few turns and then getting reconnected, the opponent's deck would be stronger.

How on earth can cheating even exist in this game? Maybe you don't have as many expansions as your opponent does, so you think it's cheating when he's just at an advantage? You also can't "switch decks" by logging off and signing back in. To the best of my knowledge, you select the expansions you have and then just play.
They changed the client/network model awhile back where it actually was easier to cheat at one point. Which is why it was changed.

So I guess it's not easy to cheat now, right?
Correct. The short of it is that there is more server side checking, hosting, and hiding info that needs to remain hidden than there was many moons ago (my impression; not feeling digging up old forum posts on the topic).

"Maybe you don't have as many expansions as your opponent does" - The rules and deck are always the same for both players; you can't be matched with someone who doesn't own an expansion that you have selected for use.
