Is a guide for Trails in the Sky the 3rd recommended?
I always had a Guide for TitS and TitS SC so that I would miss as few sidequests as possible, so I was wondering if I will need a guide for the 3rd so I can get maximum BP.

3rd barely has any missables overall, and no BP system to speak of. I've heard people say that some books in the hub area disappear if you don't read them as they show up, but I don't know whether it's true or not.

You don't need a guide for The 3rd but there is some minor stuff you can miss:

There is a pretty good item you can get if you click on all library books shortly after they appear. You can also get a quartz for never running from an enemy.
Some of the dialogue in the garden and elsewhere varies a bit depending on who you have in the party and there are a few easter eggs here and there.

It's less needed than FC and SC, you can go back to locations of earlier chapters to finish off all the side stuff. It's hard to miss the optional content as it's clearly shown in the menu and you can teleport to all of optional content once found. Up to a point of no return at the end of the game which should be very clear. It's good to do it all since it provides a lot of lore for the next couple of arcs in the series.

As for missables, I think some books disappear if you don't get them at the start of the chapter, just check the bookcase at the start of a chapter and I think you should be fine. There are also two mutual exclusive quartz you can get in the late game, one if you never run for 300 battles and one if you run from at least 300 battles.

Hope you enjoy the game.

well damn, I'm probably almost at the end of chapter 2 by now xD So I'll probably be missing out on those books from those chapters. I'm also gonna miss out on the Quartz for never running from an enemy

The quartz are quite strong but not essential, the accessory you can get from reading all the books the first time they appear is also quite strong but not essential.

One character ( Anelace ) also has a hidden weapon you can get if you do a particular door ( Star Door 5 ), which can also be upgraded in the late game when you clear Sun Door 3 Arena - Nightmare with Anelace in your party if she has got the sword from Star Door 5 .

You get quartz for reading the books? Didn't know that. How does it work?

Supposedly you get the "Esmelas Circlet" accessory from reading all the books, but I am not sure when you are supposed to get it to be honest. I don't seem to have it on my save game either. It might have been an addition to the EVO version that is mistakenly attributed to this version, I don't know. Cannot find it in the walkthrough either.

I've gotten it, you need to examine one of the bookshelves during the final chapter to get it once you've read all the books.

What does it do?

increases STR, DEF, ATS, ADF and DEX by 50, SPD by 10 and AGL by 9(that's weird), increases MOV by 1 and has the properties of grail locket, meaning immunity to all ailments.

That is pretty good.

Play it blind and go for achievements later for a better experience.

There are a few achievements you might want to aim for in a playthrough like "Never retreat".
