I don't have a problem with him, he is a grouch but he has his reasons. He is by no means my favourite cast member, but I still think he is ok.

I'm surprised if anyone likes him in FC. SC they tone him down right off the batt, but I've never regarded him with anything but "okay". Only character I'd rank below him is Zin.

Well, the Japanese can be fairly literal in their naming. Agate is a very hard stone and Agate is very hard in his personality.

(Agate is around 7 on Moh's scale of hardness, go look it up for some random knowledge ;) )

Yeah, ditto. Sure, his character is a the trope "Tough guy with a soft interior" that is an anime staple, but in typical LotH fashion, they manage to flesh out his character well enough that he rises above being one dimensional.
