Game not recognizing controller

Tried closing everything out, running both with and without big picture and the game isn't recognizing the steam controller. Any advice?

Make sure "Enable Gamepad" is checked in the configuration tool.

It's not even recognizing there's a controller connected. When I open the drop down box in the config tool, there are no controllers in it.
