edit note: i tried to turn 0ff the 3d sound thing, but it didn''t work or i did it wrong
Old discussion, but I had the same issue tonight. I was able to fix by running the game from the steam library tab and running the DirectX 8 version. Hope this helps anyone else with this issue.
I just ran into this problem. Tried the fight twice, and I got a crash. I do not have a XONAR sound card. The crash for me happens when Agate tries to attack. Not always but it happened in both fights. One in his first form, and one in his second form.
I got past the fight by disabling direct 3d sound in the config tool, but that's a pretty strange bug to run into after the game has been out for so long, and the devs knew about it occurring. Not what I was expecting to experience from this development team.
Edit: Managed a workaround:
1. Use the DirectX 8 version of the game.
2. Instead of killing the femael beasts, I have to suck it up and take their beating while focusing on taking out Grimoire!Agate first. Once he's down then I focus on the beasts. This is the worst tactic possible and goes against logic, but at least it didn't crash for me.
I must mention that disabling DirectSound and DirectSound 3D did not help on my system. I have a SoundBlaster X-Fi installed in the PC, but I didn't use it while playing the game.
The game would crash every time he'd use a specific skill.
Running the DirectX 8 version of the game did it for me.
I was finally able to clear it without crashing
My pc is running windows 11... could that be a reason?
But FC worked perfectly.
Would really like a fix, I don't want to sit through the same Capua cutscenese over and over.
