The game would have to be rated M in the US to include that blatant of a reference to what was really going on there. It sucks they censored and I'm usually against it, but I think right there is the line. It's one thing to allude to some incredibly messed up stuff, but it's another level to blatantly say it in that manner. I think in this case they were right to cut the overt references and leave the allusions.

?????

They didn't censored a thing, this was beta content that was later changed by Falcom. This doesn't appear in any version of the game.

Also the finished version of the door is waaay worse than the beta content.

IMO the real version is a lot worse...this one's a bit more obvious, but it was still plenty obvious what was going on in the official version, and the addition of the Stairway to Gehenna track during some parts just makes it all the more depressing and messed up...Feel so bad for poor Renne.

For the curious, the script for this can be found directly after the ending of the normal ran script in R1204._SN.

There was no censorship in the US version compared to the Japanese PC version at all.
All Japanese versions after the PC version were heavily censored.
We didn't carry over that censorship to our version in any way.
The content showed here is unused content, even in Japan.

hmmm I don't know whether this is the original version or not but I gotta say I prefer the one with the kids. That felt a bit more dark and ♥♥♥♥♥♥ up. It also makes her dialogue in SC more relevant (there were other children too, but they all got sick and died).
This is dark and scary and makes you feel really bad for Renne BUT the other one not only does that but outright fu c k s with your mind. It is increadibly dark but doesn't say what is happening directly.
I haven't played the game yet (gotta wait just a little bit more) and this won't kill the experience for me in any way , I love Xseeds localization but I would rather have that version.

So at least one of the loli lovers was a government official? Makes you wonder about the state of corruption in Crossbell...

Weren't those kids just figments of her imagination?

Thats what makes it more disturbing dude. She literally had to make imaginery kids who worked for her. They would say we work so you don't have to. They slowly die and the last one "Why wont you let me go" (if I am not mistaken). They also mention about a drink that makes her feel weird.
You have to watch it (though it seems like you already have) to get what I am saying. This is dark, blatantly saying what happened but dude the other one ♥♥♥♥♥ your mind. Both do a good job but that one is in a league of its own. Telling a disturbing child prostution story like that is both genius and unique.

How were the other releases censored?

The (post-PC) Japanese releases basically cut most of the content in that door.
It's much shorter and the graphic imagery is censored too.
The US release isn't censored at all, though.
I do want to stress that.

Also, to give an additional comment on the earlier version that's linked in here: there are things in this door that are addressed later in the Kiseki series, and the early unused version doesn't cover them. The final version that's in the XSEED release does.

Overall, the story is told better in the version that was used in the game.

However, the version that was used in the game is also told worse in the ways that it:

a) omits the presence of a government official.

b) it also omits Renne's age.

c) it also omits the fact that Josh & Loewe killed every last one of the organization members. So in the version that was used in the game, the player is left unclear about if the organization might still live on elsewhere with some surviving members.

As well, this Star Door would have been a lot better for both versions if it included a playable section for the Loewe & Josh invasion, and then switch back to the cartoon-style cutscenes after they take everyone out.

A story like this is better told when things are not 100% clear or told, because it always lets the door (ha) open to interpretations and an even bigger sense of uneasy. Specially with the kind of... event that it's told. It shows you how big of a trauma everything was, and it's not clear what's real and what was just her delusions taking over her.
