Save system
I have been looking forward to this game but just recently heard that it uses a rather odd checkpoint save system, where it only saves at the end (or start?) of a day. So if you are like, in the middle of the day and have real life to attend to, you can't just exit and save to continue there, but lose everything since the last checkpoint.

Is this true, and if yes, how is the pacing between days in general? Do days pass automatically, or is the end of the day triggered by player action?

I've been burned by terrible save systems (especially checkpoint-based ones) in the past, so I'd rather avoid this game if you have to play a certain way in order to not get screwed by the save system itself.

You can eat and end the day whenever you want by going back to your house and it'll advance time by 24 hours. So essentially you can play each day as much as you want.

Hi! Reggae Shark is correct, the only way to save is to go home & sleep. Here's a quick breakdown of the day/night cycle (it is explained in-game):

1- wake up in the morning. game saves.
2- live your janitor life! each day lasts between 4-6 minutes
3- once it's nighttime the game won't progress until you eat and sleep. your incinitron battery dies and eventually all the shopkeepers close down. it just stays night forever til you go home

at any point in the day you can go home and sleep to save (as long as you've eaten), but since the days are generally pretty short we thought it'd be interesting to make the save system inherently reflect the day-to-day routine style of gameplay we were going for. hope that answers your question :)

ALSO if you want to just skip time & stay inside all day for example, you can hold down "interact" while standing on your bed. This is an easter egg, not explained in game, but as long as you stockpile food there's not really any reason to go outside ;P

Is there any overall pressure across multiple days, or a maximum number of days and then the game ends? Or open-ended and I can choose the pacing without pressure? :)

totally open ended, no limit, play at your own pace :)
