Make sure the desktop is not locked, and that no other application is running in full screen mode.
Avoid running under Remote Desktop or as Windows service.
Check the display properties to make sure hardware acceleration is set to Full


i already tried everything in the pinned discussion, nothing worked, any help?!

What card do you have, what kind of PC, and what operating system. The game does need DirectX9.C or above, like DirectX10 but if the graphics card is not good enough (meaning it can handle Direct3D, DirectDraw etc) it will give you that error.

Do you have 2 video cards, or 2 monitors, sometimes the game sees the unusable card first.

Okay, try upgrading to DirectX 10, DirectX9.C is the minimum because it has the proper Shader Models (vertex and pixel shaders 3.0) which are needed to draw all the 500+ creatures.

Hey, im kinda nooby at this tech stuff, how do i upgrade it to DirectX 10?

There, i downloaded DirectX 10 (assuming that's how you upgrade it)
it still doesnt work

You might need to reboot. Also upgrade your video card to latest driver, and then run dxdiag makes sure you have DirectX10 and directdraw and direct3d enabled.

What video card do you have, make and model?

I have the same issue
My Specs (laptop):
Windows 7 64 Bit Home Premium
Intel Core i5 (2.4GHz 2.4GHz)
Onboard Intel (HD) Graphics card
4GB RAM

I installed XNA from the install folder
DotNet installer said I already have a later version installed

I'm certain DirectX 9.0C is installed (DxDiag says DirectX 11)
DirectDraw acceleration enabled
Direct3D Acceleration enabled

Anything else?

Install Xna 4.0 and .Net 4.0 first.... steam might not have installed those first. Those can be found in the commonredist folder.
