Cannot Stall the Airplane (C172)
I've been trying to practice slow flight, power off stalls and power on stalls and the only thing that kinda feels a little close to to the actual thing is slow flight. If I try to stall the airplane though, it's almost impossible to do so, the plane will not even go under 40KIAS (I managed it once going full power and at a 90 degree angle of attack that would not even be possible to reach in real life on a C172); the stall warning will go off but no matter how steep my angle of attack is it will never stall. I've tried everything from the official Cessna Manuever Manual to experimenting on my own going without flaps, full flaps, differnet atttitudes etc. I also have yet to complete a landing under real circumstances, at 1200 feet in the pattern, as soon as I'm abeam the numbers and I get my KIAS under 110 on the downwind, revs down to 15000 RPM and flaps 10, the airplane starts dropping like a rock. I have to keep my RPMS well above 2300 just to make base, getting flaps down to 20 once on base does not slow my rate of descent either. During cruise flight and in general, there are absolutely no left turning tendencies and no need to adjust with right rudder either, I can fly and keep my heading without even touching the rudder pedals.Everybody keeps praising the flight dinamics of this game (clearrly not a simulator) but so far I haven't seen anything that approaches reality. Not impressed...

I've started to modify the Cessna 172 and also changed its flight behavior. Its by no means finished yet, I would need to have some real hours in the Cessna to actually verify what I've heard of other pilots about the Cessna's flight behavior.
Here is the download to my mod:https://www.aerofly-sim.de/download/download-aeroflyfs2/af2_c172_download
It also adds start/stop to the engine, btw :)
I plan on modifying the flight behavior further, get the engine numbers as close as possible to the real ones etc.

Thanks Jan! :-)
Ps you can send me PM for a free flight in a Cessna if you live or can come to the Netherlands 👍✈️

Well, the flight model is not perfect for sure, trimming is way harder than on the real plane (the xbox controller that ships with the Oculus doesnt help either), but I would say the flight model is quite good.

The stall is not very pronounced on the C172, as on the real plane. Flying at 40 knots is simple, without effort, take a look at this video I recorded:
Slow flight video

Regarding pattern flying, you can fly the entire approach at 1500-1700RPM as on the real plane, with the correct approach speeds, take a look at this second video (forget the low approach)
Pattern video

I still believe the flight model can be perfected, the plane behaves a little on the violent side when reducing/adding power, and the plane doesn't float too much, which makes landings quite tricky. but on the overall I would say the flight model is better than other sims (FSX and X-PLANE).

You can test "normal" flight envelope response by trying the new version of Microsoft Flight Simulator: Prepared. (Lockheed bought the IP from Microsoft and now uses it for commercial training) The flight model is based off large tables of measured performance data. So unless you're doing something crazy like trying to fly a helicopter upside down, it's fairly accurate.

Is nothing like the real thing, it's a game...........

Thank you Jan!! I'll definitely try it out.
