Ground textures?
Is there any actual ground textures that look good in this game or am I doing something wrong? I've even downloaded that 50gb texture update and the ground still looks like a scene from Mario. Tried it both normal and on oculus and it just looks like ♥♥♥♥...dont get me wrong the cockpit looks stunning but just about everything else looks like ass. Can anyone help? If that actually is as good as it gets then might get a refund...

You haven't told us anything about your PC hardware or whether you are using ULTRA settings. Most of us are blown away by the clarity of the FS2 ground textures even though some of us have been flying photorealistic textures in FSX for years. Your photos should look like this:

Which airports are you flying near? Of course you have to be in California, Nevada, or Arizona

Go to Switzerland, the best terrain is there. Then also san fran down to LA is good up until grand canyon. The rest of the world is no good textures.

be sure that you've actually installed the DLCs

Hardware wise all good. i7, r290x 12gb ddr3 ram and so running everything maxed out and still looked bad:\ I was flying over LA and San Fran mostly but tried a bit all over the map but never looked any good. Not gonna lie, DCS kinda trumps this so far...

you'll have to pose a screenshot. DCS terrain graphics are like 15 years old looking

What GPU do you have? Also, make sure that you downloaded the free DLC and that it's installed properly. You should see photo real quality ground textures if you fly around in the area of the airports defined on the map.

Also, it's very difficult to troubleshoot your problem if you don't at least post a screenshot.

I know I was confused trying to tell if the DLC was installed or not. The checks were in the boxes next to the DLC, so it appeared like it was installed, but wasn't. I had to find it in the library and click install. Or something like that.

Normally when you install DLC the check boxes will be checked but it could still be downloading in the background. Remember, these are big downloads and could take some time to fully complete and install, so if you close Steam and reopen at a later time you may not see them still downloading but they are.

From the Library - Selecting FS & Clicking on Properties, then DLC Tab - I see a check in the Install Box and the Status is reported as Installed - does this mean that the download was completed suceefuly and the DLC was installed correctly?

It should, yes

It depends on where/how you fly. San Francisco has tons of 3D objects, for example, where as a small town in the middle of nowhere will not have any 3D objects at all, just the flat, 2D photographic texture. Unlike FSX for example, there's no generic Autogen to populate the world with 3D objects, you only see what was manually placed by the developers.

An easy test is to fly (stay below 400 knots if you are trying to fly above the Colorado river) in the Grand Canyon and see if the textures look sharp - well, there is "smear" on steep walls but mostly very sharp!
