Standard joystick and R22 pro mode
Hello,
My initial question was not in the right place. I repeat. Is a standard joystick such as the Saitek X52 able to work with the R22 pro mode. I tried but it is very difficult. The R22 turns always on the right and can't be controlled even with very smooth actions in the right order. Of course with the same joystick the flight is very fine in the easy mode. Thank you very much for any explanations.
Best regards

Hey, I'm using the X52 and I've been able to fly it around fine.

Although I've done a lot of flying in the Huey in DCS, so that has helped me to get better at flying helicopters with more realistic handling/physics. The R22 is a little bit harder to fly than the DCS Huey though. But I haven't crashed the R22 on Profi mode yet, so it is possible to fly it with the X52.

EDIT: The reason why you're rotating to the right is due to the way the rotor blade spins, it wants to pull the helicopter around, so you gotta use a bit of rudder to keep it straight. It's worse when hovering, so the faster you fly forwards, the less rudder you'll need to counteract it.

The R22 is a very sensitive helicopter, so you need to be very gentle with it, especially when taking off, hovering, and landing.

Hello,
Thank you for answering. It's what I wished to read. Now I have to train but I also need some advices. Left rudder is not sufficient to stop the right rotation. Joystick calibration is OK.

You're welcome.

Not sure about your rudder problem though, as mine seems to correct the right rotation fine. If you look under the helicopter controls menu, and then twist your X52 stick left and right, does the white bar fully reach each side?

In easy mode, it auto corrects for this, which is why if you look down the pedals are already skewed. In pro mode you have to correct for that yourself.

Not sure about your rudder problem though. I use pedals for my setup and they work fine. All I can advise is to check calibration both in Windows and in the game.

Also, this may sound like a silly question, but did you set your joystick throttle, to the helicopter throttle or the collective in the keybindings? It needs to be bound to the collective of course, but I'm sure you probably knew that and have already. I'm just surmising that if you had it set to the throttle you might be spinning up the rotors more than you could compensate for.

Hello,
It's better now. The remaining problem is a big tendancy to roll on the right after take off (any idea to limit this tendancy ?). I have to manage the throttle slider to avoid too high rpm. What about the governor ? What is the default value, off I suppose as R22 is a self governing helicopter ?

Why is this helicopter much more difficult to control (in pro mode) than equivalent helicopters in XP11. Is the flight model so different, better I guess even if those from XP11 are already very good ?
Thank you for explanations
Best regards

Go ahead and delete the "throttle" assignment if you don't know what it does.
You don't need to adjust the throttle in the r22 during flight, since that is the job of the governor!

Hello,
Thank you for comments. The throttle assignment is disabled but I still have the very strong tendancy to turn and roll on the right when trying to take off. Even when anticipating and doing very smooth action I can't stop the movement.
Best regards
