Neon Drive
So how do I get this game to work?
After a fresh install, the game would open with a black screen and then close by itself after a couple seconds. And reinstalling, checking game cache, rebooting, and updating geforce, it opens with a black screen and loading circle that goes on forever until I click and it says it's stopped responding.

Looking online, it can be various things. A corrupt font, outdated drivers, etc, but you've already checked those.

Some have mentioned RAM problems but I don't think that's the issue. You can check your RAM just in case, try this. [www.howtogeek.com]

Now it's telling me that it's crashed and giving me error reports. I have a GTX 1080 TI with 11gb of VRAM, Intel i7-7700k at stock, and 16gb of RAM. No other programs were running, I even closed Steam when I tried to start the game.

I haven’t seen that error before. A quick google search gave these search results [www.google.com]

I’ll let you know if I find out what’s wrong.

Have you tried updating your graphics card drivers? That seems to have worked for some.
Supreme_Court Jun 23, 2018 @ 7:42am
Yes I have, and I've tried verifying the game files and reinstalling a few more times. It's gone from error messages and the endless black screen back to opening with a black screen and then closing again right away

Hey there BananaDog. I presume you are /u/tartersawce? Anyways, I'm going to need some information from you and I can think of two things you can try and see if it makes any difference.

First, could I please have your Computer's Specifications? The more detailed the better.

Second, could you please navigate to "New Retro Arcade Neon\NewRetroArcade\Saved\Logs" and put both the latest NewRetroArcade.log file and latest UE4CC folder into a zip file and upload them somewhere? OneDrive, DropBox, Google Drive, Mediafire, etc will work.

As for the two things you could try, could you please try the following steps copied from the FAQ below? This will reset the XML files and return them to their default state.

"In order to fix this, navigate to “New Retro Arcade Neon\NewRetroArcade\Content” and inside will be a number of XML files with the word “default” in their filenames (ex. ArcadeMachines.default.XML). Copy these default XML files to another location and rename them so that the default portion is removed (ex. ArcadeMachines.XML). You can then proceed to overwrite your existing XML files with these copies. HOWEVER, do note that this process will erase any configurations you’ve made to the Arcade. Your ROMs will not be touched. You may wish to make note of any changes you’ve made before reverting everything to their defaults."

And finally, I would try moving your config files located at "New Retro Arcade Neon\NewRetroArcade\Saved\Config\WindowsNoEditor" out of the folder. The game will make new ones upon starting.

I've also found that this error might be because of a corrupted font. See
this thread [forums.inxile-entertainment.com]

What they suggested there is to download and run a program called Font Frenzy which would restore your windows fonts and delete the ones installed by other programs. But as I can see, that program is designed for Windows XP. Some people reported that they have used it on Win8 but I don't know how safe that is. Which Windows version are you using?

You can go to your fonts folder and make it display fonts in "details view" (view>details) and sort the fonts by size. Then, if you see a font that says it's 0KB, it's probably a corrupted file. Please let me know if you find any.
Supreme_Court Jun 26, 2018 @ 5:22am
My fonts folder opens up in a control panel style window instead of a regular explorer window. I can't organize by size but I can see sizes, and I don't see any that are 0. I used that program and it didn't make any difference or break my PC, thankfully. I'm using Windows 10.

Churvin's post seems to be from a thread about some other game, but can you tell me where the saved game location is? Since Neon Drive won't run, it might not even have made one yet though. I didn't see anything in the usual places like Documents and USER>appdata>local.

If you can see Fraoula logo when you start the game, press F1 multiple times until a secret menu appears. There's a button to erase all progress.

If you can't get to the secret menu, you can delete manually.

On windows, saves are located at "C > Users \ <your username> \ AppData \ LocalLow \ Fraoula \ Neon Drive"

You should also delete the Neon Drive registry folder entry located at:
Computer \ HKEY_CURRENT_USER \ Software \ Fraoula \ Neon Drive

It's best to search the registry for neon drive and delete any "Neon Drive" folder that is located under any Fraoula folder if multiples are found.
Supreme_Court Jun 26, 2018 @ 5:56am
Nope I haven't seen any logo yet. Oh LocalLow instead of Local, okay. Deleting those just makes Steam pop up messages about cloud backups, and deleting the registry folder didn't do anything. It all just comes back when I try to run the game again. Black screen for a couple seconds, then it closes.

Is there an error.log file in that Fraoula / Neon Drive folder or subfolders?
Supreme_Court Jun 26, 2018 @ 6:39am
There were error logs in the regular Steam game folder back when it was showing an error message before crashing, but there aren't any now.
uberwleiss  [developer] Jun 26, 2018 @ 8:14am
That's unfortunate.

Can you try this: Delete savegame folder. Delete the Neon Drive registry entry I mentioned before. Then disable your internet connection (thus preventing steam cloud sync) and start the game.
Supreme_Court Jun 26, 2018 @ 9:28am
The Steam cloud didn't sync automatically, it gave me the option to download the save files I had deleted, or upload the game files I had (which was nothing). But I just tried deleting everything and putting Steam in offline mode before running the game. There was no message about cloud saves, but it still does the same thing as before.
The author of this thread has indicated that this post answers the original topic.
