Strike Series on Sega Genesis
Does this game play like that old school Desert/Jungle/U^rban Strike game?

As for this game: it is a bit more like Ace Combat, if you ask me. 3rd person from behind the chopper and all that. However, this game has more realistic handling, limited ammunition, and objective-based gameplay that absolutely requires you use at least one transport or hybrid chopper in your line-up. If you liked Ace Combat, you should enjoy this game. I wouldn´t really compare it to the Strike series.

no, I had mega drive II, so I played those 3, but this is much different, yet somewhat similar.

Christ, this brings back memories.

I used to play Desert Strike at the display booth of my local Woolworths store in 1992, and bought a Mega Drive shortly after.

I had the Sega Master System version too, but it was absolute rubbish compared to the 16-BIT version.
:)) Danger Zone !!! peep-peep-peep.

Anyway, how can one compare this to isometric, 2D thing of old ? Back then it was pretty awesome but this is different.

I was asking more of a General question really. I t looks like you run helicopters in an arcade style format. The old school genesis game play really well and i figure this was a reboot of sorts, like Road Redemption was based on Road Rash

I do not know the titles you mentioned, howver this isnt a hardcore simulator, you dont need to look at all the flight instruments, so it is arcadey with a good degree of manageable flight physics realism. Should be pretty easy to learn imo. But its not so shallow.

Desert Strike...
I had some friends with what seemed to be an endless lots of Amiga games I could borrow, so I guess I tried out more than 5000 games :)
Out of all those games, Desert Strike, Jaguar X22 and Bombman were my 3 favourit games.

Starting at the hangar, flying into that unknown sandy beach..
Bombing enemy ground including hangars, cars and infantery, searching for the secret agent (or something) and finally pick him up by the "sling load" hook and bring him back to the camp..
Bringing ammo etc out to use for later.

All of this I see coming into Heliborne - in fact we just need some lost agents or pilots to resscue, which should be coming sooner or later, oh and a hangership or two as well :)
Bombing hangars is not included yet though :D

In many ways, Heliborne is a futuristic version of Desert Strike - or at least can be IMO.
A city map like in Air Missions: Hind would be wonderful as well, where you have to shoot vehicles and infateri in the streets between high buildings.
Aaaand some less war based rescue/search missions :)
