The version this insulting thread point to is 1.03b, which contains some minor changes from the official 1.03 (the RNG is changed and there are more hero portrait options). Since it removes the DRM without changing any gameplay, I think it's still kind of acceptable.
However, if what I've read is correct, this version works by adding another launcher (BattlecryIIIb) and the version could only be launched from this launcher. Steam won't be able to launch it as it only execute the original BattlecryIII file.
If you decide to use it, you'll have to go to the file location and launch it manually.
not to the linked thread
And since we don't know when WBC4 will ever be made the mods are to fill in the need for this game to be polish but many people see different side and i hope we all can combine our sides together for better game even though modded to be created for us all.
:)
Summoning is still on timers after "installing" this patch .
It shouldn't be are you sure you copied 3 files properly and used correct exe file?

I did read that one . I did try that .
Edit : Just tried to install it from CD-ROM once again . This time , it wouldn´t even let me write the code in the protection system , because it froze up after a few seconds .
EDIT: Found the bugs for this.
In short download
103 Stuff - from the top of the page
Version103FIX - down the page a bit
Place the data files over the steam library files (no renaming needed just extract and place)
Right click on the file "Battlecry IIIb.exe" an go into properties
Go to the compadibility tab and make sure it is on Windows XP (either service pack)
Start the game from "Battlecry IIIb.exe" (may want to create a shortcut)
You should be able to play the game now
I know how you feel becoming frustrated with the ... progress they have made patching the game beyond what was originally supported. They have provided the files to revert the patches but it is not obvious and they expect you to figure this out. I imagine the modding community had to go through this with GOG as well so they are already frustrated from having to deal with the same problem as before. I hope this helps you and you are able to the version you want to play.
At least it isn't the ring of elven greed bug version with no Random Number Generation that was a real disaster. Still I wonder when this problem will be fixed by steam when they provide either stable version (or even better both).
