Warlords Battlecry III

Petition for Warlords 3: Darklords Rising to be brought to STEAM
I'm 28 years old and have played the Warlords series ever since I was 15. Sadly, becuase the games are so old, It's hard to run them by conventional means and STEAM seems to have a knack for providing retro games with minimal installation problems.

Warlords 3: Darklords Rising is a 2d turn based strategy with depth I can only compare to games that were made in this generation. There are 100's of units, all with unique traits, you can edit your hero roster, unit roster, magic setup, starting gold, Allies and mercs, Thus creating a system where there are litterally 100,000's of different combinations.

Not to mention the gameplay aspects that rivals CHESS in terms of strategy.

The artwork in the game is full of character that easily compensated for the 2d imagery.

Do a little bit of research into the game and you may be thoroughly intrigued.

If the feedback on Warlords Battlecry is anything to go by, I'm very confident this Game will also be very well recieved. By todays standards, It'll be the best 2d game on STEAM and I do enjoy games like NEO Scavenger, Convoy, Hammer Watch etc Bearing in mind that it wasn't originally an indie game.

C'mon, it's basically a Lord of the Rings, Chess style war-game with RPG elements and endless customisable options... how awesome is that?!?!?!? :steamhappy:

I totally agree with you. Hope to see both versions (Warlords III - Reign of Heroes and Darklords Rising) at Steam or GoG some day.

At least on GoG you can vote to bring it back on the following link:

Wow, Nice to know there's more than 1,500 at least. I'm actually looking for a cheap old PC just so I can run this game. Hard to believe I spent so much money on a PC, now all I want to do is downgrade for a 2d strategy game.

I can't believe it's not as popular as I thought it would be, I try to speak to ppl about it sometimes and only 5% know it... it's what you get when you combine Civilisation and LOTR... Way ahead of its time, just look at endless legend, it's merely a clone with barely as much depth as W3:DR

If by some miracle an online multiplayer could be added, I wouldn't mind an inflated pricetag.

I can run both CD versions even on Windows 10. It needs some tweaking but it is possible ;-)

Yes, it is.I've tried every method and currently I'm able to play it for several hours until it crashes. I can handle Skyrim crashing, Fallout or any other game but when it comes to such a game I have so much feels for... it really crushes my spirit. Feels like I'll never get that game back.

Me and 2 other friends used to play this game in high school and we had some epic times, up all night :3 cheering for victory and almost strangling each other after defeat XD dem feels

does dark lord rising better than heroes of etheria? isnt better that they brought rather warlord 4?

Darklords Rising was the best of the Warlords games. A true gem of a game, and one of the best games of all time! Many fond memories playing it, though playing WBC3 more than enough scratches that itch. Still, I m all for the possibility of a new Warlords game as well, but only after WBC4 >:D

I'm 34, loved both Warlords 3 and Darklords rising. I would love to see these on Steam. I have managed to get Wofenstein 3D in steam, so it should be possible.

I'm 39 and I love all Warlords/Warlords Battlecry series. The main issue with Warlords 3 DLR is that the patched .exe is lost and there's only 1.00 version that Steve Fawkner, KGB and other members of Warlords team now have. And patching such an old game AGAIN, knowing that there's barely a couple of hundred of people around the globe that are ready to buy it... Not in our times, guys.
Try Warlorders dot com, it's a main (and only, I suppose) living place for Warlords fans.

Considering the lust for indie games of today, I wouldn't be surprised if this game was welcomed. The junk I've seen on the indie platform..... why wouldn't WL3:DLR be welcomed? It's so much more entertaining than every indie game released today.

If that's the case.... Steve Falkner is an idiot. If he won't keep the spirit alive, let it die with him. Let nobody remember the reighn of the darklords.

Man, don't forget WHO are the main gaming auditory now, and who are bringing money to the market. Kids, schoolboys and other youngsters of all sorts WON"T buy Warlords 3. For their tastes, it's too old-fashioned, too difficult to learn and to master, lacking all the modern bells and whistles.
Steve now is trying to earn some money making online/mobile puzzle/RPG games like Gems of War. I'm almost sure he still cherishes the dream of making new Warlords game. But dreams are dreams, and hunger is hunger. You can not eat dreams. And AFAIK Australia is not the cheapest place on Earth to live.

There is not really a need for a new Warlords game. While it should be great. But what we are asking here is just a re-release of Warlords III RoH and Darklords Rising to be able to buy it digital and it works under Win10.
I can't imagine it should be a lot of work since there are already patches / tweaks to make the game run under Win10 and a platform like GoG is re-release older games on a daily base and are succesful with that.
Heroes of Might and Magic III and Age of Wonders II and AOW Shadowmagic are still bestsellers on all their charts already for years just to give you an example.

Let's try again: the source code of W3DLR 1.02 exe IS LOST, so it would be a LOT of work to patch it again including applying compatibility with modern OSs. W3DLR runs perfectly only on WinXP, for Win7 and higher it requires the virtual machine.
As for GOG, it gets significantly WORSE during last year, trying to compete with Steam with selling TONS OF CRAP, at the same time refusing to enter a decent number of both old and new games into their catalogue (their 'permission criteria' seem 'curiouser and curiouser' every year).

I agree with GoG isn't perfect and have a very strict criteria. About the source code I didn't knew it was lost. I did some research earlier this year and the old SSI was sold to Mattel and Mattel's game division was sold to Ubisoft. So in my opinion Ubisoft bought the source code for these series and owns them. Correct me if I'm wrong since you seems to know more about it.
I disagree with your view on only kids buying games. As I said in my previous post Homm III and AOW II are both in top seller lists every month and I compare Warlords III with them.
I also disagree with the game not perfectly running on Win10 (win 7 and 8 I don't know). With the cursor fix I can play both original disc versions endless without CTD's.
So that's the reason why I don't understand the need for a remake even if the source code is lost. I can't believe with current technology that we can't just offer the original game (like it is on disc) with some fixes and sell it on GoG or Steam.

AFAIK, as for W3DLR Steve Fawkner and his company (Infinite Interactive) still own the rights. As for Warlords 4, Warlords Battlecry 1&2, it's Ubisoft. As for Warlords Battlecry 3, it's Enlight Software.
