Warlords Battlecry III

Warlords Battlecry III

Will there ever be a Warlords Battlecry IV?
The devs used to talk about it.

This is a really old game and I got it on GoG with the whole collection, I love this game, it's an amazing RTS one of the greatest single player RTS games ever made and in the day it had good multiplayer that allowed for some really interesting strategies.

I've dreamed about a Warlords Battlecry IV possibly reintroducing a conquest campaign with all of the updated races for over ten years.

If Age of Wonders can get a sequel in this day and age then why not Warlords? Will it ever happen? No idea. But lets hope it will.

I hope so too and that's a good reference.

Age of Wonders III is a great successor to AoW 2, it'd be awesome to see Warlords Battlecry get an equivilent successor.

There is a WBC 4 but it really sucks and they turned it into a turn based strategy game.

That was Warlords 4: Heroes of Etheria, not WBC 4. The turn-based Warlords series actually existed before and Warlords Battlecry titles are but its (more popular) real time strategy spinoff.

For WBC 4, I really hope that it will be made some day, preferrably soon.
And Warlords 4 is actually older than Warlords Battlecry 3. It was released in 2003 while WBC 3 was released in 2004.

I disagree with your assessment that Warlords IV sucked, fans of the Warlords series were generally happy with it, it got good reviews, and it was competent at what it set out to do.

You just went in expecting it to be WBC, which is a spin off series.

Too lazy to ever read this, but the devs collected some ideas from players in 2012 about what they'd want in a wb4.

I would love a WBC4, even if that is compromising a little bit.

I would love it with some modern 3d graphics, with some physicks thrown in there a little bit, you know, if skeletons die for a crush attack, some bones could fly a little bit.

But how many races would be good? because from WBC3, There is a ton of races, which are not possible to expand on the first try.
So having something like WBC1 races, and demons, and then add some expansions to get some of the other races?

Specially if that help the races to feel more special individualy.

Yeah me too.

I'd personally be ok with less races at launch if it took time and stuff to develop the races I'd understand that moving to a new engine and everything it could be a bit much, as long as it had the iconic races in it.

I mean if it didn't have Swarm or Plague Lords at launch and that came in an expansion, or if we had to wait for Barbarians and Minotaur, that'd be cool because they could always be added later in thematic expansions.

Warlords Battlecry 4 is maybe the only game where I'd support a DLC model and buy every damn race until all 16 were in the game. They'd probably have to start really small, like 4-6. It seems unlikely to happen at this point though, they've been focusing on their mobile franchise.

Honestly I don't want a downgrade to less than 8 races if that's required for a new engine. Also dlc will usually mean a lot of people won't have the extra stuff, making online play awful, and there is always the chance of a disappointing launch (probably due to not enough races) which might cause DLC to not even be considered because they don't have the money for it.

Might as well polish up the old one and do the Age of Empires 2 thing releasing new races and campaign stuff. Also balancing. Allow the community people to work officially on this.

Therein lies another problem; I2 merged with another studio some years ago, and that studio was then acquired by EA. I2 quit en masse and reformed their old studio, but because of that acquisition EA owns the source code to all of their older games. They don't hold the creative rights to the Warlords universe or anything, but I2 can't make a new game on that engine and with their existing assets. They'd have to start from scratch no matter what.
