Can we have the option of official patches only?
As the title says, can we have the option of running official patches only?

If unofficial patches were available as a free DLC, then cool. I completely understand if other players want these patches.

But I like my summoned troops being actual troops, I like having to build my character's charisma if I want a bigger retinue, and I don't like the game talking about ♥♥♥♥♥♥♥ whenever my buildings are being taken. I just want the features that were in the official patches.

Please give me the option of playing the actual game.

Does Steam version come with unofficial patches pre-installed?

I'm really amazed that after all these years the GOG version and now even the Steam version still hasn't removed that "Your buildings are being converted, ♥♥♥♥♥♥♥".

It's good to know this is running on the unofficial patches, though. Just FYI there are a lot of major issues, not just balance-wise but bug and stability-wise, in the official patches.

I would be surprised if you couldn't manually downgrade your version of the game.

it comes with the latest unofficial patch [ 1.03.24 ] you can see the version in the options menu.

As for bugs, well let's just say ironman mode does not work. I think it worked with the gog version :/

edit: try setting the savefile to "read only", the game will freeze upon clicking on either skirmish / campaign (that's when it checks for the files)

I would have preferred the last official patch, myself.

Why? The Unofficial patch is less than a year old and has a lot of fixes . . .

Because adding/removing content is considered modding, not patching. Balance patches can be argued about, depending on the severity of the adjustments. But the unoffical "patches" are mods.

So? They fix bugs, and the changes they implemented are no brains. For example, they switched the Squire's model with the Imperial Archer's model. IF you were a true fan of the game, you would know that this is a NO BRAINER change, that should have been fixed when the game was released yet the only patch that does this is the unofficial official PATCH that came out less than a year ago:http://etheria.wikia.com/wiki/Patch_Downloads

I've had no problems with the Archer and Squire model with the official official patch of my hardcopy.

"IF you were a true fan of the game"

If you were a true fan of the game you'd criticise the game, trying to make it better than it is.

REally?

THe pikeman and Squire are wearing the same armor, even though they belong to two different factions (Knights and Empire).

The swordsman and Imperial Archer are wearing the same armor, and look similar, but are also on opposite sides. They rectified this obvious mistake.

Can we install that patch with the steam version of the game? Or do I need the stand alone? I'm thinking of installing this patch in the hopes of it fixing the flashing cursor bug.
TheBasque Jan 24, 2016 @ 7:05pm
It'll work with the steam version!
Well, there are changes I 'm okay with, changes I like and changes I don't like (especialy summon time limit) in the unofficial patches. I think they should be counted as mods instead of patches and should be in the mods section (highly recommended mods, really) but the game itself should be the last official version. I grew up with that and that's the experience that I'm familiar with and would like to revisit.

Well , regardless of you liking them permanent summons made summoning very OP and that's why it was patched out.
And limited time summons make them extremely UP.
And was summoner really OP before? In order to be a good summoner, a hero need to have high intelligence, which will give them high mana pool and high speecasting chance. That means sacrificing strength and dexterity and make the hero squishy. A strength-based hero could easily run through the summons and murder him. It's just a lot more fun to play summoner without the minions disappearing every two minutes.
