Warlords Battlecry III

Warlords Battlecry III

Is this like Puzzle Quest?
It's essentially the same people, is there actually narrative ties though?

You are a terrible person :P

But, seriously... yes, the setting is the same, but this is an RTS which plays off a risk-style conflict grid between a mass of races. You have a persistant hero character who levels up, and you can actually keep some of your experienced troops and carry them over between battles.

In addition to simply having a persistant main character these, level up growing stronger, and could also complete missions around the map, or collect items. Similar in a way to Spellforce, but, in my opinion, vastly better.

I was serious, about ten years ago my brother bought this game, and it seemed like he enjoyed it, but I never actually saw it, I believe due to it's CD Key it couldn't be install on my computer.

I really enjoyed the world of PQ and it reminded me of the Warhammer, Horned Rat game, in that it wasn't heavy into mythical fantasy magic.

It's a fast-paced RTS with a permanent hero progression and hardcore mode. It is in my opinion the best game in the series, but has not aged well. Unless things like the resolution and minor annoyances are patched, this now is more like a 6 or 7 out of 10 - a game that only lovers of the genre will enjoy.

Horned Rat was certainly more... gothic, germanic fantasy than full blown fantasy (If you like that setting, check out Battle Brothers). PQ did kind of have that moody, hopelessness about it, the sense of the uphill struggle, but alas this is quite different.

As a matter of fact, as silly as it might sound to outsiders, Puzzle Quest had a story where WBIII didn't.

Think of WBIII's campaign as Rise of Nations, while the difficulty and available troops of the world change as the world map does, there isn't anything other than complete map conquest driving the forces forward.

Although, that said, I must reiterate that the persistant main character and troops really did make the game stand out as well as the fact there were 12(?) factions in the game, all vastly different, from Fae to Dwarves, from Humans to Demons.

(Also +1 to what Protoss said)

+1 Protoss

Not so much a fan of the setting of Horned Rat, more the way Magic is acknowledged in that realm and that it exists in it's own world. I guess when you have a long run of previous products set in the world you can pull from those stories.

I enjoyed Starcraft/C&C/RA more than Warcraft1/2 due to the story and characters, I wasn't grabbed by the story. I remember once being in Sheffield and being shown Warcraft 3 and being amazed by it, but in the ten years since I've never followed that up.

You can't call it an RTS

Since you finish your hero's leveling, he will be unstoppable, so it's more RPG than RTS

EVERYONE EVERYONE PLEASE CLAM DOWN

I have played this game for so many years i bought this game back in 2004 and have it on GOG.COM i know what this game in about

So in a nutshell it combinds the elements of Diablo 2 Leveling your hero,Getting powerful items
And warcraft 3, Picking one of SIX TEEN!!! Races, Building a base and gathering Things like Gold,Metal,Stone and Crystal to buy units, more buildings and get upgrades to crush your enemies in one of many diffrent Win Victory Condision

THere is a camgain to it which is acutaly a sort of open world type but you have to do a few of the main missions inorder to unlock the whole world to explore and best part you can use any hero/race you want

This was a hell of a lot of fun back in the day, needs a modern remake imho.

Completely and utterly untrue. Also, guys, I suggest downloading the unofficial officla patch on the WBC3 wikia! Great game!

I have play hours and hours of WBC III on the original cd version and Gog.com version as well.

It is not even remotely a RPG at all. More like Rise of Nation with Heroes progression on the side and veterancy for units. Nevermind the hiring unit from battle to battle both online and campaign.
I think all of you are missing the point. Puzzle Quest is set in the Warlords realm, my questions was is there carryover in the and story telling, as opposed to asking about the actual game.

Warlords Battlecry 3 actually was released before Puzzle Quest. Warlords Battlecry 3 has a nice non-linear campaign with story, but it's not very deep or detailed. Sometimes it has some nice details such as different dialogue based on your race/class though.
