Because the original developers no longer own the license to the game and EA, the new owners, see no potential in RTS games. So the franchise has pretty much ended.

RTS for the most part had its hay day a decade ago according to publishers. It just stopped being financially viable because the market got flooded with titles. It has been making a bit of a come back recently so its always possible there could be a sequal in the future but I wouldn't hold my breathe.

The Protectors is probably the closest thing to WBC4 we're going to get.

Some actual developers who are interested should start a kickstarter or something to buy it from current owners. I can't see any reason why to sit on IP and let it die like that.

reason is simple, relic and blizzard own the RTS market.
I mean when was the last time you did playa great RTS with base build ?

Like to see WBC2 come to steam. Without the lame-a$$ patch of course. Sadly Blitzwing we likely have about the same odds of seeing it happen, that being very slim - none.
