Does this game work fine on Windows 10?
Or do you need to tweak things first?

Thanks.

some tweaks are also on W8 required. But is known to work afterwards flawlessly

Have a link to these tweaks?

these may sound as general hints, but should be fully applicable for W10

Was Direct Play enabled?

no, it doesn't. Don't waste your time until they come up with a real solution.

Well, I'm seeing conflicting reports here. Some same yes, some say no. Which is the common?

I used to play WBC 3 on Win10, but after some time I downgraded to Win8.
Even in Win8 there were some issues (but everything could be fixed)
Some do not experience any negative obstacles (and can play right upon installation is complete)
Some experience problems, like (video distortion / cannot start / error right in the first menu / Hero data not saved and are lost upon each game restart)
Those above have known fixed.
Some experience "cannot start" - and have no solution (either due local restrictions - like anti-virus, anti-malware or other ongoing services that cannot be turned off and do not recognize old game like WBC in the exception list) - or any other reason (unknown)

To my knowledge, here is the distribution of the trhee options:
1) 25%
2) 70%
3) 5%

Where one falls into, is usually just question of pure luck IMO.

Running windows 10 64, extracted the widescreen driver, clicked that setttings box in the legacy tools, turned off anti virus, ran as an admin. The screen goes black and attempts to load then kicks me back. I remember wbc2, loved it, I love these old games and would pay double for them if they would just run halfway fairly without having to spend hours on end simply trying to get them to work. Same with MOO2, with all the brainiacs out there, why the hell cant we seem to make it simple, install drivers, double click and there you go.

binkw322.dll
mss32.dll
wests32.dll

missing.

oh, looking at the dlls - it seems to have simple solution - make the CFG to not launch video ... WBC tries to start some intro video - remove it and problem should be solved.

also something is in this thread:

That's not a solution. Point being, how many hours should an hold gamer have to spend trying to just get this thing to run on a modern system. It's ridiculous.

Some games are worth huge efforts to be launched. Amiga Emulators were made with enormous time investment just to run few games.
It's odd that this has happened more than once. What could cause missing DLL files?

It's not made simple because of so many various factors. The first one is that the company (Retroism) which uploaded the game files to Steam uploaded an unofficial version or 'mod' of the game. There was no funding behind it - they didn't even playtest it to find the ♥♥♥♥♥♥♥ text problem.

Then, there's Microsoft. In newer versions of Windows, old routines are deprecated and functions are 'upgraded' and exclude old functionality. Eventually in Windows 10 this resulted in the lack of support for semi-modern (well, old) DirectPlay games - but interestingly this only happens for some users of Windows 10. This means the game does actually work on the OS, but in order to make it do so some people have to go out of their way. This means it isn't the fault of the so-called 'brainiacs', rather it's almost entirely Microsoft's for disabling support by default on these types of installations of the OS.

I'm fully aware of this from the understanding that OS makers aren't going to tweak their systems for old games. But, then why release it on something like steam for it to fail? Some people like myself are willing to go the extra mile, but when you go the extra mile, and still cant get it to work it's simply ridiculous. Especially considring it's on Steam, and was just released by Steam. I'd pay 20 bucks and try to get this thing to work for 4 hours, still cant get it to work after more. Steaming pile more like it.
