It says on the note that the kid thinks he is sad because he doesn't have a friend, and that if they leave him a gift maybe he will come back and play with them. It also says he likes treasure and shows a chest and coins. So I went up to what I assume is his hideout (the disconnected safe house with the owl on the front) and left the coins in the storebox (the storebox in this safe house is a completely different inventory from the rest of them). I believe once you go to sleep in a different safe house for the night that he will return in the night, take the coins, and leave something else. I have not passed enough time to try it yet though as I have been too busy to play today.
1) Put Golden Coins in the Storage Box of the special Shelter
2) Go back to the special Shelter the NEXT day and check the Storage Box
If it's not working, must be a bug.
I did exactly as you say and the coins were still there.
I was fast travelling to pass time. The last fast travel skipped from 8pm to 7am. Maybe the fast travelling into the next day causes it to not work?
*** Edit ***
After waiting patiently for the "find a shelter" quest to trigger at 8:30 it worked like a charm! Thank you for the clarification. :)
We'll fix the issue that prevented you from unlocking it the first time. Thanks!
Thanks! You have been a great help in my enjoyment of the game over the past while. It only clicked because I have played through the game like 6-7 times. xD I enjoy testing out each update I see with new features.
@brion
It isn't one of the typical safe houses.
!!DO NOT READ THIS SPOILER IF YOU ENJOY FINDING THINGS YOURSELF!!
From The Apricot Valley there is a path leading back to the Mountain Pass. Up that way before dropping back down, turn right and there is a safe house that claims "The ancient tunnel has collapsed." and you cannot fast travel from there. You will also notice anything you have left in your stash from another safe house is not accessible here. ;)
Still didnt work yet. Will keep trying.
On a sidenote.
Didnt know it was an easter egg, but what i do know is that this isnt hidden at all.
Might want to change it a bit IF you had a riddle or something challenging in mind.
The kids letter tells you exactly what to do and even shows you where.
