Chocolate
I finally finished a run through of the beta from the beginning and only have a few "Epic" Medals in the Temple Of Trials to go. I reported the only real bug I found (I was able to heal in the Natalia battle via equip summoning a Wizard Cat) (that is not supposed to happen) and now seem to have found something else that may be wrong, but is more likely me just being stoopy.

I decided to break my usual way of playing any game and go for a "Completionist" run.

At the end I had every piece of equipment and upgraded everything fully, except for one item that needs a piece of Chocolate to top it off to level 5.

I broke my usual way of playing again and consulted the guides. I found this list for where to find Chocolate:

Hope Harbor material shop, behind the counter
Hope Harbor Kitchen (left of equip shop), behind barrels
Jerry’s house, secret in drawer below, then to the right of TV
Greenwood Village, Grumpy Guy’s house, secret in drawer
Given by Molly in Rapture (must have completed her quest beforehand)

I visited all those spots and could not find any, so assumed I got it earlier and used it for upgrading stuff. I honestly don't recall how many bits of chocolate I got and used.

But I am still one short.

Is this intentional? To prevent a 100% Complete run without a New Game+?

Or is the guide I used possibly missing an entry?

Or is there one on that list that I just don't see when running around searching?

Just curious. It doesn't effect my enjoyment of the game at all, but it does make me wonder if it was an oversight.

Does anyone have any insights about this entirely too long question?

It's possible that I miscounted - but the equips should only use up spare key items.

Thanks for the quick reply!

I'll do another run through the spots on that list, and if it's not there I'll just finish it off on a New Game+ run.

If I missed it while searching, I'll confess :steammocking:

But I searched those spots twice and doubt I missed it.

It's actually kind of cool that you can't get everything in one run (gives incentive to play a "+" game) but I was just curious if the guide missed one, or if I missed something.

Either way, thanks for a thoroughly enjoyable game!

Just for reference, the Natalia thing isn't a bug, Undead only prevents healing magic and Regen, summons and food will still work normally.

You get exactly enough Chocolate to max out everything in a single playthrough (5 Chocolates in total, 3 used for quests and 2 for upgrading equipment).

Hi Balsion.

Thanks for the reply. I guess the error has to be in the guide I used then, because I revisited all those spots 4 times (even spoke to Molly in The Rapture repeatedly, knowing I completed all the quests), and I still need 1 chocolate.

I'll seek other guides and see if any offer different information.

The only other thing I can think of is a long shot - I played on Equip Remix so I could get the Custom Game medal. Does that option alter the items needed for forging in any way?

Everything else is so solid I can't see that being overlooked, but it's the only other thing I could think of.

EDIT - The pictorial guide for where every item in Version 2 is located (posted by RED PYRO STANDO USER) confirmed the locations listed are indeed accurate.

Now I am really confused.

I also tested the Natalia healing thing you mentioned - Boy I sure can be a dummy sometimes! I had to beat her on epic with no healing at all! I thought it was the handicap so never even tried food.

That will make any future play-through a LOT easier!

Equipment doesn't usually need key items to be forged, they are only needed when Equip Remix is enabled.

I was able to max out everything with Equip Remix, so there shouldn't be any Chocolates missing, and I can confirm that those 5 locations are correct; there was another person who also reported that they were missing a Chocolate, so I can only assume it's some weird bug that can make you lose a Chocolate somewhere.

That's good to know, I suppose. I may decompile it and have a peek. I used to be handy at making flash games, but only little ones. And I only have CS6, so it probably wont be optimal...

I too came across this problem.

And I thought it was just me!

If this is more common than I thought, finding the bug could be a nightmare. I'd suggest just adding in 1 more bit of Chocky someplace if figuring out what's going on is too much.

have you spoken to the goth in the mystic woods after doing her quest? i seem to remember her giving me a chocolate afterwards

I've been on the discord for a while, and I can tell you that basically everyone has the chocolate problem - myself included. It's gonna have to be fixed in an update, I guess. There's only five chocolate in the world of Epic Battle Fantasy 5. 3 are used in the quest, and in equip remix mode, 3 pieces of equipment require you to use a chocolate. If you want to upgrade every piece of equipment to maximum, just know that it is impossible in equip remix mode.
