None of that text is particularly important though.
And when text happen I skip a box or two and when I realize its too late.
I am so glad that auto save feature is really agressive in this game. It helps a lot so thanks for it.
Wasnt EBF3 and 4 skipping text box only if you click on text on the bottom because I dont recall that being an issue for me in those two games.
Yeah, EBF4 was like that, but a lot of people found it annoying, so I made it easier to skip text.
I don't want to sound ungrateful because I do enjoying your work since you made since I tried for the first time EBF2 but this thing is the only thing that really annoys and ruins my enjoyment me becuase I have a huge dislike on random skipping a content such as joke and dialoque.
Its just my OCD kicks me everytime I skip something and I dont know what did I miss.
I'll consider it if a bunch of people ask for it.
I like fast text, because I can't stand waiting around for text to appear (I read very, very fast, so even "fastest" usually is slower than my reading speed). I have the same problem in this game in that I often skip the first line of dialogue because I clicked something in the new screen.
I did wonder somewhere in the back of my head what changed, but apparently it's that you don't have to click the textbox anymore.
Anyway, the combo fast text + click anywhere to skip = guaranteed to misclick
I think it is because Left-click is used for movement too. Mouse-users are spamming L-click to move the party around all the time, so when travelling between areas it is very very easy to habitually-click before noticing the dialogue box has appeared.
An awkward workaround to not miss any dialogue is to disable the quick text option & set text speed to slowest, but it then requires twice as many clicks (kinda defeating the point of the option imo).
I suggest it should use a hybrid system: Right-click anywhere, &/or Left-click only inside the dialogue box area (ie: bottom 1/5 of screen, outside the movement area).
Then players can use L-click for movement & selecting, with R-click for dialogue & backing out of menus. Seems safe & intuitive enough to me, but no idea how easy that would be to program.
(This is probably my only gripe with the game UI. Excellent job, Matt!)
The backspace key seems appropriate. Because even if we have the option of having to click only on the text box to advance the dialogue, we can still be stupid and click too fast or something.
but I like that you don't have to click the text box
so my suggestion is to add a delay – when it pop-ups, for a 1sec or so, you can't continue dialogues with LMB
but for LMB only, RMB is fine
or it could be an option to advance through dialogues with RMB only
Maybe you could add a really big speech bubble above the character, which disappears first instead of the first page of dialoge?
I'd suggest a small maybe 1 sec period of lag time before you can skip the first dialogue box.
