Stardew Valley gives you all the choices, but doesn't tell you, so you may end up doing none of them.
World's Dawn has a bit more hand-holding and guidance, but you actually find you can get into your little character's story a bit better, and 'get to know your neighbours' bit is actually worth it. You can save anywhere via portable diary and don't have to lose half a day because you mucked up! Make multiple saves in case anything weird happens. Hell, you can backup those saves by making a copy in a different folder. I just cannot stress how much easier the portable diary made your farmer's life(especially during the demo, if weird stuff happened, just send the dev your save file etc), while not making it too easy.
Stardew Valley - way more content, but you'll probably not even get through half of it on any given character. You feel kind of shoehorned into skilling for everything.
World's Dawn - knows it's limits and made a way more charming game within them. It's actually a pity that there's not going to be more, but it is an entire game, just not with all the extras players would have liked.
I hope this is somewhat helpful. I just woke up ten minutes ago and haven't finished my cuppa yet.
wow , that's a complete enough background for me and damn I love that save anywhere you want feature. that's is what harvest moon or stardew need.
thanks I'm buying this.
Any other game that is similar to this one? I can never get enough of harvest moon from gameboys back when I was a kid, guess i'm still a kid now..
I`m not saying World`s Dawn is a bad game, much on the contrary, I finished my first year just yesterday and I absolutely loved it! If you did buy this game, you probably won`t regret it, it`s a lot of fun playing it!
That being said, I also have to point out that WD is a lot more simple and has a lot less content and features than Stardew. There is just so much more things to do and secrets to uncover in Stardew. If you got bored with it, than WD might have the same effect, after a while you run out of things to do, On my last couple of weeks in WD I found myself just riding around randomly looking for forageables or just going to bed at 5pm cause I didn`t have anything else I wanted to do that day. So, if you're only trying to compare the two games, Stardew is definitely the one that'll keep you entertained for the longest, imo. But if you're just looking for another game that's similar to the Harvest Moon series, than you've come to the right place! This game is awesome and very endearing, but it also gets repetitive more quickly than Stardew.
Sup Man, I actually didn't enjoy WD... there's the pixel box movement, speed is too slow, yea and less content and worse of all.. it's RPG maker made.. so Stardew Valley still it is. But I do hope harvest moon do comes back
Basically instead of making an entire game themselves, and paying for a bit of help here and there, I'd like to see what they'd come up with as a team doing something completely new. Another life sim/farming rpg thing? An adventure game?
There are other 'similar' games out there, but World's Dawn and Stardew Valley are the ones that keep getting compared, each with their pros and cons - and the cons are usually that there are bugs, or some game element that's either a waste of time or doesn't work properly.
How long ago did the devs of these games finish up and move on to other things, and isn't it interesting that moving on didn't mean 'cobbling together a sequel solely for profit while abandoning the first game'.
So yeah, if they ever worked together and made something interesting in a few years time, I'd buy it.
You know what me too.. but the creator of stardew was just a solo programmer that took help from publishers and upon hearing she was gonna retire or stop so I doubt it.
I hope harvest moon comes back and you know what while typing this I searched and FOUND THIS!

Looks sucky tho... imma try it
...I think it's on my wishlist anyway...
And honestly Light of Hope looks... not that good.
Stardew did the gameplay right. (I really like fishing!)
World's Dawn did the social and atmosphere part right.
Light of Hope seems to be mediocre in every aspect.
Still, probably some day I will try it... if I find it really cheap.
yea just spam trout soup and use that... bobber that increases your fish bar even more better with dish o the seas. it's almost half filled the whole fishing bar with that
World's Dawn has better character development, conversations with characters, and a better story line.
Stardew Valley had a lot more to do and was much more interesting at the beginning.
Apparently LoH is an improvement over other recent harvest moon titles? But I still find World's Dawn just that little bit better in story and characters(just that little bit more dialogue, it's not that hard) - it's just let down by the restrictions of RPGmaker and being made by a single dev.
Honestly, I wish the devs of World's Dawn and Stardew Valley would get together and make another title - it doesn't need as much content as Stardew(you know the best sprinklers? They're overkill, and make getting married less 'yay we're working together!' and more 'trophy spouse...yay?'. Not to mention the variety of crops only really helps if they *do* something, like cooking and making better animal feed in HMLoH), but it does need a more meaningful story. The big restriction Stardew Valley and World's Dawn both face is gameplay really trails off after year 1 - the villagers really need to react differently in the second spring than the first, especially if you just spent your first year busting your hump to bring the town back from the brink. I suspect that's why the World's Dawn dev stopped working on the game - getting past that 'make the second year different' hurdle just didn't pan out, let alone being able to bring in family dynamics.
Also, an answer to your question, Stardew Valley is easily the better when comparing this and it, but there's no reason not to own both. Also, Stardew Valley is coming out on Android Thursday, and is already on iPhone, so I recommend getting the phone version too if you're out and about much.
