Tossing a coin in the fountain???? Need help.

I've noticed others are able to toss a coin into the fountain in the east village area but no matter what I do I can't toss anything in.

You should just be able to walk up to it, and while you're holding down the down arrow, (walking into it) press the action button (x) and you should drop a coin in.
